Funeus Named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week

NEW YORK - After a strong start in her first week of collegiate action, Seton Hall women's basketball rookie Femi Funeus (Plantation, Fla.) has been named BIG EAST Freshman of the Week. The conference made the announcement on Monday afternoon.

Funeus was an instrumental part of a 3-0 week for the Pirates, averaging 13.7 points and 5.3 rebounds in wins over Wagner, Kennesaw State and UTSA. The forward shot 69.6 percent from the floor over three contests and added two blocked shots.

In the season opener against Wagner, Funeus scored eight points on a perfect 4-for-4 effort from the floor during 20 minutes action. She followed that up with a breakout performance against Kennesaw State in game one of the Seton Hall Tip-Off Saturday, torching the Owls to the tune of 21 points and eight rebounds. In 22 minutes of action against KSU, Funeus shot 7-of-10 from the floor and 7-of-11 from the free throw line to become the first SHU freshman to record 20 or more points in a game since Kaela Hilaire against CCSU on Nov. 26, 2016. She followed that up with a solid 12-point, six-rebound outing against UTSA on Sunday to earn a spot on the Tip-Off All-Tournament Team.
