RIO VERDE, ARIZ. – Sophomore Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) shot a team-best 2-over-par, 74, while three other Pirate golfers fired a 3-over-par, 75, in Sunday's final round to lift the Seton Hall women's golf team to a come-from-behind team championship of the 2018 Rio Verde Invitational.
Â
Seton Hall entered today's final round trailing Akron by four strokes, but the Pirates were able to fire an 11-over-par, 299, while the Zips shot a 16-over-par, 304, giving The Hall a slim one-stroke victory. For the three-round tournament, Seton Hall shot a 38-over-par, 307-296-299-902. Seton Hall's lone BIG EAST competition, Xavier, finished a distant 20 strokes behind.
Â
The team victory is the 12th in the history of the program, but it's the first time that Seton Hall has won back-to-back tournaments. The Pirates won the Brown Bear Invitational to close out the fall season last October.
Â
Off the heels of her first collegiate individual title, freshman Mia Kness (Venetia, Pa.) notched her second straight top-10 finish. Kness finished her final round strong with birdies in two of her final four holes to finish with a 3-over-par, 75, on Sunday. For the tournament, she tied for seventh place among 97 individual golfers with an 8-over-par, 73-76-75-224.Â
Â
Win had the Pirates' low score for a second straight round today. For the tournament, she registered an 11-over-par, 83-70-74-227 to tie for 16th place overall.
Â
Both Cassie Pantelas (Canton, Ohio) and Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.) fired a 3-over-par, 75, on Sunday. Pantelas rode a wave of 15 pars in her final round, while Staudt had 12 pars and two birdies. They tied for 36th place at 17-over-par. Pantelas had a 77-81-75-233, while Staudt recorded an 83-75-75-233.
Â
Sophomore Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) shot a 6-over-par, 78, on Sunday, but finished her stellar tournament tied with Win for 16th place. For the weekend, she was 11-over-par with a 74-75-78-227.
Â
Macky Fouse (Aliquippa, Pa.) also made the trip and competed as an individual. The senior tied for 30th place with a 15-over-par, 73-78-80-231.

Tournament Details:
RIO VERDE INVITATIONAL
Host:Â Western Michigan University
Location:Â Rio Verde, Ariz.
Course:Â Rio Verde Country Club (Quail Run Course)
Course Vitals:Â Par-72, 6,215 yards
Dates:Â February 23-25, 2018, Three Rounds
Â
The Course:
Rio Verde features two traditional-style courses with a soft desert look. They are more Midwestern in style with a lot more grass than one would imagine in a desert setting. When Tom Lehman led the $6 million course renovation project a few years ago, he achieved his vision of creating two uniquely distinct courses, giving members a never-ending variety of golf experiences. Quail Run has all the elements of a traditional golf course, and White Wing plays more like a links course. Common to both courses are meticulously groomed fairways, greens loaded with personality, and outstanding mountain views.Â
Â
The Field:
In addition to Seton Hall and host Western Michigan, the field was comprised of 14 other teams including: Akron, Arkansas State, Ball State, Bowling Green, Bradley, Central Michigan, Eastern Michigan, Illinois State, Missouri State, Northern Illinois, Ohio, Arkansas-Little Rock, UMKC, Wichita State and fellow BIG EAST competitor, Xavier.
Â
Up Next:
The Pirates will return to action for three rounds of golf, March 5-6, at the River Landing Classic in Wallace, N.C.
