NEW YORK - Seton Hall men's basketball senior center Angel Delgado (Bajos De Haina, Dominican Republic) has been named an Associated Press All-America honorable mention for the second year in a row after he turned in another solid season as one of the best post players in the country, the Associated Press announced Tuesday.
This is the third consecutive year that Seton Hall has garnered a honorable mention All-America selection as Delgado also got the nod in 2017 and Isaiah Whitehead earned the honor in 2016. Overall, this is Seton Hall's 16th all-time AP All-America recognition.Â
Delgado was once again the best big man in the BIG EAST Conference, winning the league's rebounding championship for the third time in four years, becoming only the second player in conference history to be a three-time rebounding champion (Michael Smith, Providence, 1992-94). Overall, he averaged 13.6 points and 11.8 rebounds on the season, giving him a season average double-double for the second straight year. He had 22 double-doubles in 2017-18, which ranks third in the nation. He also is in the top 10 in the country in overall rebounding and offensive rebounding (4.03).
Delgado perhaps saved his best for last in 2017-18. On March 17, in the second round of the NCAA Tournament, he posted 24 points and a career-high 23 rebounds against Kansas. It was the first 20-20 game in the NCAA Tournament since 2012 and the 23 rebounds were the most by anyone in an NCAA Tournament game since 1975.Â
For his career, Delgado is graduating as the NCAA Div. I's active leader in career rebounds (1,455) and double-doubles (72) and is tied for 16th all-time in NCAA history in double-doubles. In BIG EAST lore, he is the conference's single-season and career leader in rebounds grabbed, the latter a 28-year-old record that he broke on Jan. 28, 2018.
