Seniors Lead Pirates to Emotional Win at The Rock

NEWARK, N.J. - It was only fitting that it was the seniors who came up big.
After an emotional pregame ceremony, seniors Khadeen Carrington (Brooklyn, N.Y.) and Angel Delgado (Bajos De Haina, Dominican Republic) combined to score 60 percent of Seton Hall men's basketball's points as the Pirates took down Butler, 77-70, on Senior Night at Prudential Center.
Seton Hall finished the regular season with wins in four of its last five games to end the year 10-8 in the BIG EAST and 21-10 overall. The Pirates finished in a three-way tie for third place in the BIG EAST and earned the No. 3 seed in next week's BIG EAST Championship. They will play No. 6 seed Butler Thursday night at Madison Square Garden at 9:30 p.m.
Carrington completed his fourth-straight 20-point game, finishing with 25 points on 7-of-14 from the field, 3-for-3 from three and 8-for-9 from the free throw line. Delgado notched his NCAA-leading 71st career double-double with 21 points and 10 rebounds and was 9-for-11 from the field and 3-for-4 from the free throw line.
The pregame ceremony featured Carrington, Delgado and injured Pirates Desi Rodriguez (Bronx, N.Y.) and Ismael Sanogo (Newark, N.J.), who were unable to play.

Turning Point
It was a tight first half with Seton Hall going into the break up four, and Butler kept coming with huge buckets from its senior Kelan Martin, who finished the game with 35 points.
Martin's dunk and Kamar Baldwin's jumper at 9:26 got Butler to within one, 47-46. Then on the offensive, Delgado got the ball on the block and out of the corner of his eye saw a wide open sophomore Eron Gordon (Indianapolis, Ind.), who drained the three to put the Hall back up four. Butler missed a three on its ensuing possession, and then Delgado went to work, knocking down a layup without looking to make it a six-point game.
Butler responded with a bucket, but it was Carrington's turn to light up Prudential Center. First he split a pair of defenders and threw down a monstrous dunk. Then he drained a huge three-pointer to send the crowd into pandemonium and put the Pirates on top by nine, 57-48, with 7:07 to play.
Butler closed to within three, 60-57, with under four minutes to go, and this time freshman Myles Cale (Middletown, Del.) drained a baseline jumper to cool the Bulldogs. The Pirates then got a stop on defense, and Carrington followed with a layup, and Cale found junior Michael Nzei (Makurdi, Nigeria) underneath for a dunk to go back up nine.
Carrington then punctuated the game with his final triple of the evening with 1:03 remaining to make it a 10-point lead.
