3/4/2018 10:31:00 PM | Women's Basketball
CHICAGO – The seven-seed Seton Hall women's basketball team (16-15) saw its BIG EAST Tournament run come to an end with a quarterfinal setback to two-seed DePaul (24-7) on Sunday night at Wintrust Arena. Selena Philoxy (Queens, N.Y.) scored a career-high 14 points in the 78-52 setback for The Hall.
Head Coach Anthony Bozzella on the result
"I give the kids a lot of credit. We could have given it up and packed it in. DePaul hit six of their first seven 3-pointers, and they came out with a lot of confidence, and we didn't back down. That's why I was really proud of the kids."
How It Happened
The Pirates fell down by double-digits after a quarter, but rallied to cut a 15-point first half deficit to 36-30 at the break. The Hall used a 9-0 run to close the second quarter strong, getting a steal and score from Deja Winters (Cleveland, Ohio) to cap the run and go into the break down two possessions.
DePaul answered to open the second half, with the teams trading baskets in the third quarter before the Blue Demons reeled off an 8-0 spurt. The Pirates shot only 9-for-26 (34.6 percent) in the second half and did not hit a 3-pointer in the third and fourth quarters.
Inside The Numbers
The Pirates finish the regular season with a 16-15 overall record and will await their postseason possibilities.
