The Hall Unveils 2018-19 Non-Conference Slate

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Head coach Anthony Bozzella and Seton Hall women's basketball have announced the non-conference slate for the upcoming 2018-19 season. The Pirates will play 11 games in the non-league, including six inside historic Walsh Gymnasium. Season ticket invoices are out for current season ticket-holders. The non-conference schedule for The Hall features four teams that played in the postseason last year, including three NCAA Tournament squads. The marquee contests include return trips to Princeton and UCLA along with the start of a home-and-home series with UConn, kicking off on Dec. 8 in Connecticut.
"As always, we think it is tremendously important to take on a competitive non-league schedule to prepare us for the grind of BIG EAST play," Bozzella said. "This year is certainly no different. We will play some great local match-ups with teams like Princeton and of course some of the biggest names in our sport in UConn and UCLA. When basketball institutions like that want to play you, it is a sign of where your program is and what we have built here at Seton Hall. I am looking forward to the challenge that this schedule presents and can't wait to get started with this group of young ladies."
After an exhibition contest against Jefferson on Nov. 1, the regular season kicks off with a 2 p.m. matinee against Wagner on Tuesday, Nov. 6 at Walsh Gym. The following weekend will see The Hall host the Seton Hall Tip-Off Tournament, taking on Kennesaw State and UT San Antonio on Nov. 10 and 11. UMBC will also visit South Orange as part of the Tip-Off.
Following three at home to start the slate the Pirates hit the road for the first time with a pair of tough tests. First up is a trip to local rival Princeton on Nov. 14 before The Hall crosses the country for a road game at UCLA on Nov. 18. Both the Tigers and Bruins reached the NCAA Tournament last season, with UCLA advancing to the Elite Eight.
The Hall then returns to Walsh Gym for another three-game homestand, with St. Francis Brooklyn (Nov. 25), UMass Lowell (Nov. 27) and Saint Peter's (Dec. 2) making regional trips to South Orange. The Pirates are 36-4 under Bozzella in non-conference games at Walsh Gym.
On Dec. 8 the Pirates visit UConn, rekindling a series with the preeminent program in women's college basketball that has been dormant since the Huskies left the BIG EAST following the 2012-13 season. Despite not having played UConn since 2013, The Hall has played in Connecticut's Gampel Pavilion twice since then in the 2015 and 2016 NCAA Tournaments. Connecticut will return the game at Walsh Gym in the 2019-20 season.
The Hall closes the non-league slate with a two-game trip to Florida, taking part in the West Palm Beach Invitational with games on tap against Georgia Tech (Dec. 20) and UNC Greensboro (Dec. 21). The contest with the Yellow Jackets marks the fourth-straight season the Pirates have faced an opponent from the ACC, with Bozzella amassing a 5-0 record against the conference during his time at The Hall. The trip to the Sunshine State is a homecoming for senior Nicole Jimenez (Miami) and freshmen Femi Funeus (Plantation) and Whitney Howell (Lake Worth).
