HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Senior Abby Thelen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) had a team-high 16 kills and only three attack errors, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell to Dartmouth, 3-0 (19-25, 22-25, 23-25), in the opening match of the Hofstra Asics Invitational on Friday.

Junior Maggie Cvelbar (Euclid, Ohio) recorded her seventh double-double of the season with a career-high 36 assists to go with a team-best 13 digs.

SET 1:
The first set was a back-and-forth affair that featured seven ties and five lead changes. Trailing 11-8, Seton Hall went on a 7-2 run, and a Dartmouth attack error boosted The Hall's lead to 15-13. The Big Green however, responded with a 7-0 run of their own to take a 20-15 advantage, and they went on to a 25-19 first set win. The Pirates fell despite having an identical .242 attack percentage as Dartmouth.

SET 2:
Seton Hall surged out of the break and scored eight of the first nine points of set two. But Dartmouth rallied with a 10-2 run to take the lead, 11-10. Trailing 22-18, the Pirates scored three straight to cut the lead to one, and force a Dartmouth timeout. The Big Green regrouped though, and scored three of the final four points of the set to win, 25-22, and claim a two-set match lead.

SET 3:
The third set was the closest set of the match with neither team grabbing a lead greater than two points. The Pirates were the first to reach 20 points as a kill by Thelen gave them a 20-18 advantage, but Dartmouth bounced back by scoring six of the next eight points to enter match point at 24-22. A kill by Caitlin Koska (Franklin, Wis.) staved off one match point, but the Big Green got the winning kill on the next point.

Inside the Numbers:

Thelen had a team-best 16 kills, only three attack errors and a team-best .400 attack percentage. She also had four digs and two blocks.
Cvelbar notched a double-double with a career-high 36 assists and a team-best 13 digs.
Koska finished with eight kills and nine digs.
Seton Hall recorded a .236 attack percentage for the match, while Dartmouth attacked at .311.
The Hall had 41 team kills, while the Big Green had 50.
The Pirates totaled 49 team digs, while Dartmouth had 44.

Seton Hall falls to 4-7 on the young season, while Dartmouth improves to 3-4.
The Pirates are now 3-1 all-time against Dartmouth.
The Pirates fell to 2-4 in three-set matches.
Thelen reached the 15-kill mark for the third time this season and the 26^th time in her career.
Cvelbar's double-double is her seventh of the season and the 14^th in her career.
With 32 attacks today, Thelen moved past former Pirate teammate Dani Schroeder into seventh place on the Pirates' career list.
With eight kills today, Koska surpassed the 500-kill milestone for her career.
