HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – Senior Caitlin Koska (Franklin, Wis.) had a team-high 12 kills and the Seton Hall women's volleyball team recorded a season-high .384 attack percentage as the Pirates swept Columbia, 3-0 (25-13, 25-19, 25-17), in its second match of the Hofstra Invitational on Saturday.
The Pirates' .384 attack percentage is their highest mark in a single match since connecting at a .419 pace at Georgetown on Nov. 21, 2014. The Hall's impressive percentage was buoyed by a strong first set, which featured 16 kills and only one attack error for a .556 rate. In fact, the Pirates committed only 10 attack errors for the entire match.
In addition to Koska's team-best 12 kills, she had seven digs, three service aces and two blocks in a strong all-around effort.
SET 1:
Seton Hall dominated the first set, riding 16 kills and only one attack error to an easy victory. Already leading 15-11, the Pirates ended the set with a 10-2 flurry, which included the last five points. A kill by Koska provided the exclamation in an easy 25-13 win.
SET 2:
Trailing 5-3 early in set two, the Pirates went on a 10-2 run to take the lead for good, and a kill by Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) put them on top, 13-7. The Tigers went on a run of their own, and cut the Seton Hall lead to just two, 16-14. The Pirates though, were able to regroup and another 7-2 outburst all but put the set away. A kill by Koska put The Hall in set point, and the ensuing kill by Claire Forrest (Pasadena, Calif.) won the set, 25-19.
SET 3:
The final set was the closest of the match, featuring seven ties and five lead changes, but ultimately the result was the same. Trailing 12-11, Seton Hall went on a 6-1 run to take a 17-13 advantage and prompt a Columbia timeout. The Tigers scored the first point out of the break, but the Pirates reeled off the next four to put the set away. A kill by Gasser ended the set, 25-17, in the Pirates' favor to complete the sweep.
