COLLEGE PARK, MD. – The Seton Hall women's volleyball team opened the Maryland Invitational on Friday and fell to the host Terrapins, 3-0 (21-25, 18-25, 10-25).

The Hall stood toe-to-toe with the Terrapins in the opening set, but as the match progressed, Maryland pulled away. The Pirates' attack percentage was only .112 in the match and their defense collected just 29 digs, which is tied for the season-low.

Junior Alondra Villanueva (Lima, Peru) tied for the team-high with six kills and nine digs. Senior Rylee Nelson (Mazeppa, Minn.) had nine digs and five assists.

SET 1:
The opening set was a back-and-forth affair with neither team grabbing a lead of greater than three points until late. A block by Daria Safian (Moscow, Russia) and Mia Clyburn (Fort Mills, S.C.) cut The Hall's deficit to 21-19, but Maryland answered with three straight points to enter set point. A block by Villanueva staved off a second set point, but ultimately, the Pirates lost, 25-21.

SET 2:
A kill by Kennedy Horn (Columbus, Ind.) cut Maryland's lead to 6-4 in the second set, but the Terrapins then went on a 6-1 burst to grab a commanding 12-5 advantage. Back-to-back points by The Hall cut their deficit to 20-17, but Maryland regrouped and closed the set with five of the final six points. The Pirates attacked at only a .133 clip in the second set.

SET 3:
Maryland dominated the third set late. A kill by Samantha Shelton (Oak Park, Ill.) cut The Hall's deficit to 13-8, but the Terrapins bounced back with a set-deciding 8-0 run to give them a commanding 21-8 advantage and force a Pirates' timeout. The Terrapins went on to close out the match with a 25-10 victory. The Hall had only a .000 in the third set, compared to .562 for Maryland.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Villanueva had six kills, nine digs and three blocks.
Nelson tallied nine digs and five assists.
Shelton had six kills and four digs.
Seton Hall recorded a .112 attack percentage for the match, while Maryland attacked at .298.
The Pirates had 25 kills, while Maryland had 39.
The Hall tallied 29 digs, while the Terrapins had 42.
Both teams had 7.0 team blocks.

Seton Hall drops to 5-2 on the young season, while Maryland improves to 5-1.
The Hall falls to 1-4 all-time against the Terrapins.
The Pirates are now 3-2 in three-set matches this season.
