PRINCETON, N.J. - The Seton Hall women' golf team will return to the links on Saturday, September 29 for the first of two rounds of golf at the 2018 Princeton Invitational at Springdale Golf Club.
Â
Tournament Details:
PRINCETON INVITATIONAL
Host:Â Princeton University
Location:Â Princeton, N.J.
Course:Â Springdale Golf Club
Course Vitals:Â Par-72, 6,100 yards
Dates:Â September 29-30, 2018, Two Rounds
Â
The Course:
Dating back to 1895, Springdale Golf Club is one of the oldest in New Jersey. Designed by Gerard Lambert and revised by William Flynn in 1926, the walkable course requires precision shot-making and has superior conditions and playability. The property, which was originally private farmland, was purchased by the Class of 1886 and gifted to Princeton University with the expectation of establishing one of the first courses in the region. The private club has a close relationship with the University, and counts many university professors, administrators and students among its members.  With a fine and experienced PGA staff, the club hosts numerous tournaments, collegiate matches, clinics and golf outings every year.Â
Â
The Field:
In addition to Seton Hall and host Princeton, the field is comprised of 10 other teams including: Columbia, Dartmouth, Harvard, Navy, Penn, Penn State, Rollins, Yale and Youngstown State. Defending BIG EAST champion Georgetown is also in the field.
Â
The Lineup:
Seton Hall will be bringing the following lineup, in order as indicated, to Princeton.
Â
Â
Last Time at Princeton:
Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.) fired a career-best 1-under-par, 71, in Sunday's final round to help lift the Pirates to a fifth place finish at the Princeton Invitational last fall.
Â
Staudt had four birdies in a strong final round effort, which is the first sub-par round of her young collegiate career. For the tournament, she finished with an 18-over-par, 83-80-71-234 to tie for 26th place overall.
Â
Collectively, the Pirates saved their best effort for the final round. Seton Hall shot a 17-over-par, 305, on Sunday to jump one spot in the final standings. For the three-round event, The Hall finished at 63-over-par with a 316-306-305-927. The Pirates finished 22 strokes behind the team champion, Georgetown.
Â
Last Time Out:
Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) fired a second consecutive 2-under-par, 70, in the final round, which included a hole-in-one, to guide the Pirates to a fourth place team finish at the Nittany Lion Invitational on Sunday. Win had a hole-in-one on the par-3, fourth hole, and birdies on holes No. 12 and No. 14, in route to her second straight sub-par round. For the tournament, she placed sixth among 92 individual golfers with an even-par, 76-70-70-216. Win's hole-in-one is the first ever during tournament play for a Seton Hall women's golfer.
Â
Win's third round, 70, is her fifth career sub-par round, which ties teammate Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) for the most in Seton Hall history. Furthermore, her 216 ties former Pirate great Ali Kruse for the lowest three-round, par-72 score ever for a Pirate. It's Win's ninth career top-10 finish.
Â
A day after tying Seton Hall's par-72, single-round record, the Pirates, as a team, shot one stroke better to set the record. The Pirates shot a 2-over-par, 290, in round three to set the mark. For the tournament, The Hall shot a 21-over-par, 304-291-290-885, and finished the highly-competitive event in fourth place. Penn State and Washington tied for the team title at even-par, while Rutgers place third at 15-over-par.
