
Seton Hall Drops Contest at St. John's

QUEENS, N.Y. – Senior Caitlin Koska (Franklin, Wis.) had six kills and a team-high 13 digs, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell at St. John's, 3-0 (15-25, 23-25, 17-25), on Saturday.
Koska finished tied with senior Abby Thelen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) for the team lead with six kills. Senior Sophia Coffey (Sierra Madre, Calif.) had 11 assists, six digs and a team-best three service aces.
SET 1:
The Red Storm never trailed in the first set, scoring four of the first five points to set the tone early. Leading 6-4, St. John's went on a 6-1 run to take a commanding 12-5 advantage. A kill by Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) cut the Seton Hall deficit to 17-14, but the Red Storm bounced back and ended the set with an 8-1 burst.
SET 2:
A service ace by Coffey gave Seton Hall a 7-6 lead early in set two. St. John's however, answered with an 8-1 run to take a 14-8 advantage. Trailing 21-16, the Pirates scored five of the next six points to cut the deficit to just one, 22-21. A kill by Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) staved off a set point, and again cut the Red Storm lead to one, 24-23, but alas St. John's won the second set, 25-23.
SET 3:
Seton Hall grabbed the early advantage in set three, and blocks by Rachwal and Emilee Turner (Kaysville, Utah) gave it a 9-5 lead. Trailing 14-13, St. John's scored five straight points to take an 18-14 lead, and never looked back. Leading 20-16, the Red Storm scored five of the final six points to win set three, 25-17, and complete the match victory.

The Pirates will return to action on Friday, Oct. 5 when they make the trip to Omaha, Neb. for a contest with Creighton. Match time is scheduled for 8:00 p.m. ET.
