
Gasser, Pirates Drop Contest at No. 10 Creighton

OMAHA, NEB. – Junior Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) tallied a season-high 10 kills, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell at No. 10 Creighton, 3-0 (20-25, 21-25, 21-25), on Friday.
The Pirates put up a spirited effort against the four-time defending BIG EAST champions, recording at least 20 points in all three sets. Gasser had only two attack errors to go with her team-best 10 kills, and had a team-high .400 attack percentage. Senior Caitlin Koska (Franklin, Wis.) nearly had a double-double with nine kills and eight digs.
SET 1:
A kill by Abby Thelen (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) mid-way through set one gave the Pirates a 9-8 advantage, but Creighton responded with an 8-2 run to take a 16-11 lead. Another kill by Thelen cut the Bluejay lead to 22-19, but Creighton ended the opening frame by scoring three of the final four points, to win, 25-20.
SET 2:
Seton Hall never led in the second set, as Creighton set the offensive tone early. With the set tied at one, the Bluejays scored six of the next eight points and never looked back. Trailing 20-14, the Pirates went on a 6-2 run, and a kill by Cherise Hennigan (Corona, Calif.) cut the Creighton lead to two, 22-20. The Bluejays regrouped however, and held off the Pirates for a 25-21 set two victory.
SET 3:
Creighton led the third set wire-to-wire and jumped out to an early 5-1 lead. A kill by Gasser cut the Bluejay lead to 8-7, but Creighton scored five of the next six points to take a 13-8 advantage. The Pirates again cut the Creighton lead to one point, 16-15, but couldn't pull even as the Bluejays scored the next four points. The Pirates again refused to go quietly, cutting the Creighton lead to two points on three more occasions, but ultimately they fell, 25-21, in set three.

The Pirates will return to action on Sunday, Oct. 7 when they travel to Providence. Match time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET.

- Seton Hall recorded a .174 attack percentage for the match, while Creighton attacked at .298.
- The Hall had 36 team kills, while the Bluejays had 49.
- The Pirates totaled 46 team digs, while Creighton had 49.
- Seton Hall falls to 5-14 overall and 0-6 in the BIG EAST, while Creighton improves to 13-4 overall and 5-0 in conference play.
- The Pirates are now 3-10 all-time against Creighton.
- The Pirates fall to 3-8 in three-set matches.
