
Xie Fueling Pirates Through Two Rounds at Georgetown

BEALLSVILLE, MD. – Freshman Wenliang Xie (Zhaoqing, China) fired a pair of sub-par rounds and has lifted the Seton Hall men's golf team to an eighth place standing after two rounds of the 2019 Georgetown Intercollegiate on Monday.

Xie golfed well all day, using six birdies to fuel a 2-under-par, 69, in round one, and 15 pars in round two in route to a 1-under-par, 70. The lone blemish of his second round was his final hole, a bogey on the par-4, No. 11 hole. Through two rounds, Xie is tied for second place among 72 individual golfers with a 3-under-par, 69-70-139. He trails the individual leader, Washington's Henry Lee, by four strokes entering Tuesday's final round.

Collectively, the Pirates shot a 7-over-par, 291, in the morning, but needed four additional strokes in the afternoon. The enter Tuesday's final round at 18-over-par with a 291-295-586 trailing the team leaders, Washington, by 23 strokes. Among the four other BIG EAST schools in the field, only Butler is currently ahead of The Hall in the standings. The Bulldogs are tied for fourth, six strokes in front of the Pirates.

Georgetown is 10th at 28-over-par, DePaul is ninth at 31-over-par and Creighton is 12th at 38-over-par.

Gregor Tait (Martlesham Heath, England) was brilliant in the first round, shooting a 2-under-par, 69, thanks to four birdies, but struggled in round two. He settled with a 7-over-par, 78. Still, the junior is only 5-over-par for the tournament and tied for 25th place with a 69-78-147.

Deven Ramachandran (San Rafael, Calif.) shaved six strokes off his first-round score in round two. The sophomore shot a 7-over-par, 78, in the morning, but used three birdies to fire a 1-over-par, 72, in the afternoon. For the tournament, he's tied for 46th place with an 8-over-par, 78-72-150.

Junior Andres Acevedo (San Antonio, Texas) had three birdies in the first round in route to a 4-over-par, 75. He appeared poised to better himself in round two, but was felled by a rough hole No. 4, and had to settle for a 5-over-par, 76. Through two rounds, he is 9-over-par with a 75-76-151.

Sophomore Peter Tyler Po (Nasipit Cebu City, Philippines) was consistent throughout the day on Monday, and is currently 13-over-par with a 75-77-155.

Competing as an individual, senior Alex Chalk (Castle Douglas, Scotland) is currently 16-over-par with a 75-83-158.

Seton Hall will have the opportunity to see how it stacks up against a number of BIG EAST teams this week as four conference teams will join the Pirates in the field, Butler, Creighton, DePaul and host Georgetown. Also in the field are Florida Atlantic, Loyola (Md.), Princeton, Rhode Island, Saint Joseph's Washington and William & Mary.

The field will play two continuous rounds (36 holes) beginning with an 8:30 a.m. shotgun start on Monday. The Pirates will be paired with golfers from DePaul and Florida Atlantic in round one. On Tuesday, a single final round will be played with again a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m.Â
