REHOBOTH BEACH, DEL. – Senior Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) shot a 2-over-par, 74, in Sunday's final round to lift the Seton Hall women's golf team to a second-place finish at the 2019 Delaware Lady Blue Hen Invitational.
Â
Win used birdies on holes No. 7, No. 11 and No. 13 to power her team-best final round. For the tournament, she tied for sixth place with a 6-over-par, 72-76-74-222. Win finished 12 strokes behind the individual champion, Pennsylvania's Susan Xiao, who ran away with the tournament by nine strokes.
Â
It's Win's best performance of her senior year so far and the 15th top-10 finish of her career. She is only two shy of Ali Kruse's career record of 17 top-10 finishes.
Â
As a team, the Pirates shot an uncharacteristically high 24-over-par, 312, in round three, but it was largely due to poor weather conditions in Rohoboth Beach. The field had to contend with the cold, rain and 20 mph winds on Sunday, and as a result, scores were high across the board. The Pirates were still able to hold down a second-place finish, completing the two-day event with a 29-over-par, 285-296-312-893. The Hall finished 29 strokes behind the team champion, Pennsylvania. Georgetown, Seton Hall's lone BIG EAST competition, finished in third place six strokes behind the Pirates.
Â
Despite The Hall's high final round score, its 893 is the fourth-lowest par-72, three-round score in program history.
Â
Senior Carolina Ronchel Salas (Huelva, Spain) had a rough final hole on Sunday, but still managed to put forth a 6-over-par, 78. Her effort completed an 8-over-par, 73-73-78-224 tournament performance, which placed her 10th among all individuals. It's her fourth career top-10 finish as a Pirate.
Â
Junior Mia Kness (Venetia, Pa.) finished her tournament with an 8-over-par, 80, on Sunday, but the highlight of her weekend was a program-record, 7-under-par, 65, in the opening round. For the two-day event, she tied for 16th place with a 10-over-par, 65-81-80-226.
Â
Senior Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) had a rough hole No. 6, but bounced back nicely with three birdies later in the round. She finished her final round with an 8-over-par, 80. For three rounds, she tied for 25th with a 13-over-par, 75-74-80-229.
Â
Rounding out the Pirates' team scoring was sophomore Sarah Fouratt (Santa Maria, Calif.), who shot an 11-over-par, 83, on Sunday. For the tournament, she had a 22-over-par, 82-73-83-238.
Â
Competing as an individual, senior Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.) tallied a 4-over-par, 76, on Sunday. For the event, she tied for 19th place overall with an 11-over-par, 77-74-76-227.
