
Kness Powering Pirates Through Two Rounds at Idle Hour

MACON, GA. – Junior Mia Kness (Venetia, Pa.) is 4-under-par through two rounds and has lifted the Seton Hall women's golf team to a fifth-place team standing of the 2019 Idle Hour Collegiate Championship entering Tuesday's final round.

Fresh off a tournament in which Kness provided a program-record 7-under-par, 65, the junior turned in another incredible round to begin the day on Monday. In round one, Kness was without a blemish, using 15 pars, two birdies and a thrilling eagle on the par-5 No. 4 hole to shoot a 4-under-par, 68. Her second round was also impressive, and featured two birdies and two bogeys for an even-par, 72. Entering Tuesday's final round, Kness is tied for second among 90 individual golfers with a 4-under-par, 68-72-140. She trails the individual leader, Charlotte's Cecilie Finne-Ipsen by four strokes.

Kness is vying to become the program's first-ever winner of three individual tournaments.

Collectively, the Pirates shot a 13-over-par, 301, in the opening round, and followed it up with a 15-over-par, 303, in the afternoon. Through two rounds, The Hall is fifth with a 28-over-par, 301-303-604. Charlotte is the team leader entering round three at 1-under-par for the tournament. Host Mercer is second at 13-over-par.

Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) was four strokes better in her second round today, using four birdies to fire a 2-over-par, 74. The senior is currently tied for 21st place with an 8-over-par, 78-74-152.Â

Only one stroke behind Win is teammate Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.). Whereas Win's strong performance today was in the second round, Sager's top effort was in the morning. Sager had three birdies in a 2-over-par, 74, in round one, and followed it with a 7-over-par, 79, in the afternoon. Through two rounds, she is tied for 23rd place with a 9-over-par, 74-79-153.

Senior Carolina Ronchel Salas (Huelva, Spain) shot three strokes better in her second round. Currently, she is tied for 48th place with a 15-over-par, 81-78-159.

Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.) rounded out the Pirates team scoring on Monday. The senior shaved five strokes off her first round score and is currently 19-over-par for the tournament with an 84-79-163.

Sophomore Sarah Fouratt (Santa Maria, Calif.) is competing as an individual for the tournament. She is currently tied for 32nd place with an 11-over-par, 75-80-155.

The field will play two continuous rounds on Monday, and one, final round on Tuesday. For Monday's rounds, the Pirates will be paired with golfers from UNCG and Western Carolina with a shotgun start at 8:00 a.m. Tuesday's final round pairings will be determined by the golfers' Monday performances with a shotgun start also at 8:00 a.m.
