South Orange, N.J. - Senior All-America candidate Myles Powell (Trenton, N.J.) is now a candidate for every major national player of the year honor after he was named to the Oscar Robertson Trophy Watch List on Thursday. Powell was one of 43 student-athletes selected to the watch list.
In addition, Powell, who is top-10 in the nation in scoring this season, is on the Wooden Award Top 50 Watch List, the Citizen Naismith Trophy Top 50 Watch List and one of the 20 student-athletes on the Jerry West Shooting Guard of the Year Watch List. Earlier in the fall, he was named the BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year and an Associated Press Preseason All-American.
Powell is one of the most electrifying student-athletes in all of college basketball with a penchant for rising to the occasion in big games. Earlier this season, he scored 32 points against then-No. 3 Michigan State. Through games on Dec. 4, Powell was seventh in the nation in scoring at 23.4 points per game with only two players from "Basketball Six" conferences ahead of him. In addition, he's fourth in the nation in three-pointers made per game at 3.88.
Powell is on the cusp of Seton Hall history, only 150 points away from becoming the sixth to reach 2,000 career points, and only 29 three-pointers made away from setting the all-time school record.
Powell and the No. 16-ranked Pirates face Iowa State Sunday night in Ames, Iowa.Â
