Ames, Iowa - Senior All-America candidate Myles Powell (Trenton, N.J.) nearly finished with a double-double, posting 19 points and eight rebounds, but the No. 16 Seton Hall men's basketball team struggled with turnovers in a 76-66 loss at Iowa State Sunday night in a BIG EAST-Big 12 Battle game at Hilton Coliseum.
Seton Hall committed a season-high 20 turnovers, and the Cyclones turned them into 14 points.
Powell, who surpassed Andre Barrett (2000-04) for eighth all-time in scoring at Seton Hall, made four three-pointers on the night and finished 7-for-20 from the field.
Turning Point
In a game that featured three ties and eight lead changes, it came down to turnovers and fouls. The Hall fought back from an eight-point deficit to take a two-point lead as Powell led the charge eight straight points, including a triple at 8:45 to put the team up 50-48.
Iowa State answered with Solomon Young giving the Cyclones the lead back at 6:51, and the Pirates went cold on offense as Iowa State built a 57-51 lead.
Powell gave it another go with a driving layup to bring the Pirates to within four and got a stop on defense, but a three-point attempt that would have gotten the deficit to one missed, Iowa State came down and drew a foul that led to two free throws, the Pirates were called for an offensive foul, and then Tyrese Haliburton put the game out of reach with a three at 2:30 to make it a 62-53 game.
