
Powell, Pirates Tame Hoyas, 90-75

Powell scored his 30 on 8-for-20 shooting, including four made three-pointers, and was a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line for a second straight game. He also had five rebounds.
Senior Michael Nzei (Makurdi, Nigeria) scored 18 points and grabbed a team-high nine rebounds, including eight offensive boards. Sophomore Myles Cale (Middletown, Del.) finished with 17 points and grabbed seven points, while Sandro Mamukelashvili (Tbilisi, Georgia) had 11 points, eight rebounds and tied his career-high with four assists. Junior Quincy McKnight (Bridgeport, Conn.) issued out nine of the team's 20 assists.
The Hall, which earned its 10th KenPom Top 100 win of the season, has now won three of its last four games to even its BIG EAST record at 6-6 and move into a third-place tie with St. John's.
The game was a part of Seton Hall vs. Cancer Night with the student-athletes wearing shooting shirts with names of people afflicted with the deadly disease that were auctioned off. The auction raised over $5,000 that will go to the American Cancer Society.

Turning Point:
Trailing 7-6 less than three minutes into the game, Seton Hall used a 17-2 run, capped by a layup from Shavar Reynolds (Manchester, N.J.) to race out to a 23-9 lead with 11:47 to play before halftime. The Pirates never looked back.
Powell connected on three-pointers on back-to-back possessions for The Hall to boost its advantage to 15 points, 37-22, with 5:42 to go in the first half. Two minutes later, a three-pointer by Cale gave the Pirates their largest lead of the half, 46-26. Seton Hall held Georgetown without a field goal for 5:26 late in the first half, before the Hoyas made a small closing run to give the Pirates a 48-35 advantage at the break.
A driving layup by Powell gave The Hall its largest lead of the game, 63-42, with 15:59 left to play, but Georgetown quickly responded with seven unanswered points to cut their deficit to 14 points. The Hoyas pulled to within 13 points with 12:11 left to play, but Powell responded with a three-pointer and a three-point play on back-to-back possessions to punch the lead back up to 74-55.
Georgetown again made a run, cutting The Hall's lead to 79-68, but the Pirates were able to fend off the Hoyas. A jumper by McKnight boosted the Pirates' lead to 83-70 with 6:34 left to play. From there, both teams had trouble scoring, with the scoreboard remaining the same for the next 3:04 until McKnight's layup broke the drought, and Cale's three-pointer on the next possession all but iced the game.
Inside the Numbers:
- Seton Hall was 30-for-61 (49.2%) from the floor, including 11-for-25 (44.0%) from three-point range. Georgetown was 29-for-64 (45.3%) overall and 7-for-24 (29.2%) from behind the arc.
- Facing the league's top rebounding team, the Pirates won the battle of the boards, 38-to-30, including offensive rebounds, 15-to-12.
- Both teams shot well from the free-throw line. Seton Hall was 19-for-22 (86.4%), while Georgetown was 10-for-11 (90.9%). Neither team missed a free-throw in the first half, combining to go a perfect 23-for-23.
- The Hall had 11 turnovers, while the Hoyas committed 12.
- Powell led all scorers with 30 points on 8-for-20 shooting, his fifth game of 30 points or more this season. He was 4-for-12 from three-point range, and a perfect 10-for-10 from the free-throw line for a second straight game. He also had five rebounds.
- Nzei scored 18 points on 7-for-15 shooting, and grabbed a team-best nine rebounds, including eight offensive boards.
- Cale had 17 points on the strength of three made three-pointers, and pulled down seven rebounds.
- Mamukelashvili had 11 points, eight rebounds, two blocks and tied his career-high with four assists.
- McKnight finished with nine points and tied his season-high with a game-high nine assists.

News & Notes:
- The victory improves Seton Hall to 15-9 overall and 6-6 in BIG EAST play, while Georgetown falls to 15-10 overall and 5-7 in conference games.
- Seton Hall improves to 49-57 all-time against the Hoyas and has won six of the last seven matchups overall as well as six of the last seven at Prudential Center. These teams will meet again on March 2 in Washington, D.C.
- Seton Hall is now 77-10 (.885) in its last 87 games (dating back to the start of the 2015-16 season) when holding a lead of seven or more at any point during the contest.
- With 30 points tonight, Powell surpassed former Pirates Darius Lane, James Major, and Levell Sanders to move into 25th place on Seton Hall's career list. He also became the 25th player to reach 1,400 career points.
- By going 10-for-10 tonight, Powell has now made 25 consecutive free-throws dating back to the Providence game on Jan. 30. He is now shooting 86.6% for the season, which ranks third in the BIG EAST.
- Seton Hall is now 9-0 when Powell scores at least 25 points in a game.
- The Hall is now 7-2 this season when tip-off is 8 p.m., Eastern or later.
- The Pirates reached the 90-point mark for the third time this season. They are 2-1 in those games.
- Using rankings after tonight's game, this was Seton Hall's 10th KenPom Top 100 win of the season.
Seton Hall will return to action on Sunday, Feb. 17, when it travels to Omaha, Neb. for a game at Creighton. Tip time is scheduled for 3:00 p.m. ET.
