NEW YORK - The honors continue to flow in for Seton Hall men's basketball junior Myles Powell (Trenton, N.J.), who was named Met Writers Basketball Association Player of the Week for the second time and BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for the sixth time this season after averaging 26.0 points, 4.0 rebounds, 2.5 assists and 3.0 steals last week.
Powell was superb in Seton Hall's 65-63 win over Providence last Wednesday, accounting for over half of the Pirates' offense when he posted 31 points and issued two assists while also generating four steals and four rebounds. After climbing back from a seven-point, second-half deficit to take the lead, the Pirates were buoyed by Powell, who had a huge steal and dunk with 1:47 remaining in the game to give The Hall its final points of the night and a four-point lead.
Although Seton Hall lost at Butler on Saturday, Powell was terrific in the second half in helping the Pirates overcome a 17-point deficit. He scored 19 of his game-high 21 points in the second half, including six straight points to get the game tied at 68-68; he stole the ball in the backcourt, hit a layup and drew a foul and then nailed a three-pointer on back-to-back possessions.Â
Powell now has four games of 30 points or more and 13 games of 20 points or more this season. He is the BIG EAST's second leading scorer at 21.6 points per game, which is also good for 20th best in the country. The Pirates are 8-0 this season when he scores at least 25 points.
Powell and the Pirates are back in action Saturday vs. Creighton at Prudential Center. Game time is 8 p.m., and tickets are still available at SHUPirates.com/SHUvsCU.
