Can you take anything away from a team's record following a conference bye week?
Since the new BIG EAST began in 2013, Seton Hall is 8-3 in conference games when it has five full days between contests. So what does that mean? Well, the team has extra days to prepare for its opponent. But since it only happens a couple of times a year, how far can you really deviate from your usual routine? Assuming Sunday is an off day, the Pirates will only have two days to prepare for Georgetown, so it must be odd to go from five days in between to only two.
We're not really sure what to make of it, but it's a statistic we have in our back pocket. Time to cash in on the .727 winning percentage. And if it doesn't work, well, there's a third bye week waiting in the wings come Feb. 24-March 1.
Saturday's contest will be televised nationally on CBS Sports Network, our first visit with the eye network this year, with Chris Hassel and Alaa Abdelnaby on the call and one of the finest producers in all the land, Steve McKee, at the controls. For that calming effect you need during one of our games, listen to Gary Cohen and Dave Popkin call the game on the radio on AM970 The Answer, simulcast on Sirius 108, XM 201 and the Pirate Sports Network.
Three Things to Know About Saturday's Night Tilt With Creighton
 1. Creighton Can Shoot the Ball
The Pirates dug themselves a hole last Saturday after a hot-shooting Butler squad made 65 percent of its first-half attempts. The Hall cannot allow that to happen again Saturday against the best shooting team in the conference. Overall the Bluejays have made 50.2 percent of their shots and 47 percent of them in conference play. Their offense is designed to create high percentage opportunities, and the Pirates have to defend both inside and out to make them uncomfortable and force bad shots.
Â
2. Myles Powell Needs Shots
The Hall's offense has had trouble getting its star the basketball in opportune situations, but that cannot happen on Saturday. The Pirates need Powell to post big numbers. The proof is in the pudding; the Pirates are 8-0 this season when he scores 25 or more points. Check out the breakdown of Seton Hall's record by Powell's point totals:
Â
| Seton Hall's Record This Season When Myles Powell Scores: | |
| 25 or more points | 8-0 |
| 21-24 points | 0-5 |
| 16-20 points | 2-2 |
| 11-15 points | 2-1 |
| 6-10 points | 1-0 |
| 1-5 points | 0-1 |

3. Use Late-Game Situations to Your Advantage
Both these teams do not have a ton of experience. Seton Hall is 230th in KenPom experience, Creighton 290th. But the Pirates have gained a ton of late-game experience this year with 12 contests decided by five points or fewer or overtime. Creighton only has four such games this season. Saint Louis, Miami, Kentucky, St. John's, DePaul, Providence and Butler all came down to the final possession. We know this Creighton game could very well do the same. It's up to the Pirates to use that experience to their advantage.
