NEW YORK - Junior Myles Powell (Trenton, N.J.) capped off the regular season with a bang, earning BIG EAST Player of the Week honors for a second time this season after averaging 27.0 points, 6.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists and 1.5 steals in Seton Hall's 2-0 week, the conference office announced Sunday.
In total this season, Powell has been Player of the Week twice and on the weekly honor roll nine times. That's 11 weekly honors out of a possible 18.
Powell was dominant in Seton Hall's win over No. 16 Marquette last Wednesday, finishing with 34 points, five rebounds and five assists. He was a one-man wrecking crew in Seton Hall's 18-0 game-ending run, scoring 10 consecutive points including the baskets that both tied the game and gave the Pirates the lead for good.
Then in the win over No. 23 Villanova on Saturday, Powell poured in 20 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals in one of the more well-rounded efforts of his career. It was his assist with 1:27 left in the game on a Myles Cale three-pointer that proved to be the dagger for The Hall in toppling the Wildcats.
Powell recorded his 18th and 19th 20-point games this season as well as his seventh 30-point game of the year. He finished the regular season second in the BIG EAST in scoring at 22.6 points per game as well as second in steals (2.0 per game), fourth in free throw shooting (.855) and third in three-pointers made per game (3.0).
In Seton Hall lore, Powell's 679 points this season are good for eighth in Pirates single-season history, fifth-highest in the BIG EAST era.
Powell and the Pirates finished the BIG EAST regular season in third place for a fourth consecutive year and owns four victories over NET Top 30 teams in Kentucky, Maryland, Villanova and Marquette. The Hall will open the 2019 BIG EAST Tournament on Thursday as the No. 3 seed against No. 6 seed Georgetown at Madison Square Garden at 9:30 p.m. The game will air live on FS1.
