KANSAS CITY - Junior Myles Powell (Trenton, N.J.) of the Seton Hall men's basketball team has been named to the National Association of Basketball Coaches All-District 5 first team, the NABC announced Thursday. District 5 encompasses teams in the BIG EAST Conference.
Powell's selection gives Seton Hall a student-athlete on the NABC All-District team for the sixth straight season, and this is the fourth straight year that The Hall has placed someone on the first team.Â
The junior guard is having an All-American season of dominance, averaging 22.9 points per game, eclipsing 20 points 22 out of 33 games, reaching 30 points eight times and scoring a career-high 40 points in a game vs. Grand Canyon. His scoring average ranks both 13th in the nation and second in the BIG EAST.

He had 25 points and a career-high eight assists in a road win at Xavier. He poured in 31 points in a win over Providence to snap a four-game losing streak. Then to close the regular season, he had 34 points and five assists in a win over No. 16 Marquette and followed up with 20 points, seven rebounds, five assists and three steals in the victory over No. 23 Villanova.
In the BIG EAST Tournament, Powell put on a show at Madison Square Garden, scoring 78 points, the eighth-highest total in tournament history. His 29 points in the first half of the quarterfinal win over Georgetown set a new tournament record.
In addition to finishing second in the conference in scoring, Powell was second in steals (2.0 per game), third in three-pointers made per game (3.1) and fourth in free throw shooting (.846). Nationally, all of those numbers rank in the top 40.

Powell is also making his mark in the career record book. He is now 14th all-time in scoring with 1,636 points and fourth all-time in three-pointers made with 265.
Seton Hall is 20-13 overall and 9-9 in the BIG EAST, marking the fourth straight year that the Pirates have achieved a .500 or better league record and a third-place finish. The Pirates then advanced to the BIG EAST semifinals for the fourth time in six years and the tournament final for the second time in four years. Seton Hall earned an at-large bid into the NCAA Tournament, the program's fourth consecutive appearance, and will face Wofford in the first round Thursday night at 9:40 p.m., on CBS.
