South Orange, N.J. – Head coach Anthony Bozzella and the Seton Hall women's basketball team have announced the addition of Jocelyn Jones (Richmond, Va.) as a transfer from the University of North Carolina. Jones will join the Pirates for the upcoming 2019-20 campaign and has two years of eligibility remaining.
"We are extremely pleased to add a player like Jocelyn to our program," Bozzella said. "She has a multi-faceted skillset which will make her a strong fit into multiple positions in our system. I'm looking forward to what she can add on both ends of the floor as a Pirate."
A top-75 recruit coming out of Cosby High School in Midlothian, Va., Jones was a member of the women's basketball team at UNC from 2016-19. After missing the 2016-17 season with an injury, she appeared in 64 games for the Tar Heels between 2017-19 and made eight starts. In 14.6 minutes per game in Chapel Hill, the 6'0 wing averaged 4.2 points, 3.5 rebounds and 0.8 assists per game while shooting 42.2 percent from the floor and 40.0 percent from 3-point range.
Over the course of her UNC career Jones scored in double-figures nine times, including a career-high 14 points on March 7, 2019 in the ACC Tournament against Georgia Tech. As a redshirt-sophomore in 2018-19, Jones played in all 33 games for the NCAA Tournament-bound Tar Heels and shot an efficient 46.3 percent from the floor and 50.0 percent from three.
Jones will look to continue a trend of transfers flourishing under Bozzella after coming to The Hall. During Bozzella's six years at the helm of the program, four transfers have earned All-BIG EAST or All-Met honors and nine have averaged double-figures in scoring. Daisha Simmons became an honorable mention All-American after transferring to SHU and Shakena Richardson was the first WNBA draft pick in school history after joining The Hall as a grad transfer. Most recently, Desiree Elmore (Hartford, Conn.) averaged 10.3 points per game in '18-19 after transferring to The Hall last season.
