SYLVANIA, OHIO – For a second straight year, Seton Hall's Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) has qualified to compete in a Ladies Professional Golf Association (LPGA) event. She will compete in the 2019 Marathon LPGA Classic, July 11-14, at Highland Meadows Golf Club.
Win participated in the qualifier for a second straight year at Sylvania Country Club in her home town. Last year, she didn't qualify on the course, but received a sponsor's invitation by tournament director Judd Silverman. She went on to play well at the Marathon Classic, shooting 75-71, but missed the cut.
Yesterday however, her golfing did all the work. Win won the qualifier, besting a field of 78 golfers with an even-par, 72, to claim an automatic qualification into the 2019 event. As was the case last year, her father, Tom Win, is expected to serve as her caddy.
Presented by Dana, the 2019 Marathon LPGA Classic is one of the longest running events on the LPGA Tour. The Marathon Classic was founded in 1984 and has been played yearly, except in 1986 and 2011, in Sylvania, Ohio, Lizzie Win's hometown. The 2019 tournament will again be played at Highland Meadows Golf Club in Sylvania, July 11-14, and feature some of the top players in the world. Jasmine Suwannapura won the event in 2018 with a 14-under-par, 65-69-71-65-270.
Win is quickly cementing herself as one of the true legends in Seton Hall Women's Golf history. She is coming off her best year so far, having shaved nearly a full stroke off her average and finishing second in the BIG EAST Conference with 74.92 strokes per round. Her scoring average was also the lowest single-year average in Seton Hall history, becoming the first Pirate to average under 75.00.
The 2019 BIG EAST Championship runner-up, Win notched season-highs with six top-10 finishes, three top-5 finishes and won her first career individual title, a two-stroke victory at the Delaware Lady Blue Hen Invitational in the fall. She earned All-BIG EAST status for a third straight year.
