
Pirates Drop Akron Invitational Final

AKRON, OHIO – For the second straight match, senior Haylee Gasser (Mission Viejo, Calif.) led the Seton hall women's volleyball team in kills and freshman Julia Wilkins (Mason, Ohio) had a strong match, but the Pirates fell in three sets to Akron, 3-0 (19-25, 20-25, 22-25), on Saturday.

Gasser had a team-best 13 kills, only three attack errors and a .357 attack percentage. Wilkins recorded her first career double-double with 10 kills and a career-best 10 digs.

SET 1:
Trailing 11-7 in set one, Seton Hall rallied to tie the set at 14 on a Gasser kill. With the score tied at 18 however, Akron finished the set with a 7-1 run to claim the opening frame, 25-19.Â

SET 2:
Seton Hall charged out of the gate in set two, scoring the first four points. After Akron closed the gap, a kill by Maggie Cvelbar (Euclid, Ohio) put The Hall in front, 10-8. The zips however, went on a 9-3 run to grab a 17-13 advantage. Four straight points by the Pirates, tied the score at 17, but Akron again took control with eight of the final 11 points. The Pirates fell in the second set despite a solid .294 attack percentage.

A kill by sophomore Emilee Turner (Kaysville, Utah) gave The Hall an early 5-2 lead in set three.  Mid-way through the set, a kill by Gasser kept the Pirate lead at three points, 13-10, but Akron responded with four straight points to take a 14-13 advantage. Despite keeping the set close, Seton Hall never led again, and ultimately fell in set three, 25-22.

Seton Hall will return to action on Friday when it begins play at the George Mason Invitational. The Pirates will take on William & Mary on Friday at 4:00 p.m. On Saturday, they will face host George Mason at 11:00 a.m., followed by Wake Forest at 4:30 p.m.
