
Sager Leads Field; Hall 2nd After Two Rounds at Penn State

STATE COLLEGE, PA. – Senior Maddie Sager (Phoenixville, Pa.) is the individual leader in the clubhouse after two rounds of the Nittany Lion Invitational and has guided the Seton Hall women's golf team to a second place standing with 18 holes remaining.

Sager had a career day on Saturday, using a total of nine birdies to fuel a pair of sub-par rounds. Her first round had just one blemish, a bogey on the par-4, 16th hole in route to a 3-under-par, 69. In the afternoon, Sager had five birdies on the way to a 2-under-par, 70. With 18 holes to go, she leads the field with a 5-under-par, 69-70-139.Â

Sager has a two-stroke lead on teammate Sammie Staudt (Coatesville, Pa.), who also had a career-best day on Saturday. Sager lead on a non-Seton Hall opponent is five strokes over Penn's Susan Xiao.

As a team, the Pirates trail the team leader, Pennsylvania, by only three strokes entering Sunday's final round. The Hall opened the tournament with a 10-over-par, 298, but shaved off 13 strokes in the afternoon. The Pirates shot a 3-under-par, 285, in round two, shattering the program's single-round record for a par-72 course. Through two rounds, they are 7-over-par with a 298-285-583. Seton Hall's lone BIG EAST competition, Georgetown, is a distant 44 strokes over par.

Staudt, competing as an individual, has shot par or better on all 36 holes so far in the tournament. The senior shot par on all 18 holes in round one to finish with an even-par, 72. In round two, she had 15 more pars and birdies on three consecutive holes, No. 3 through No. 5, for a 3-under-par, 69. Currently, Staudt is in second place, only two strokes behind Sager, with a 3-under-par, 72-69-141.

A third Pirate currently in the top 10 is sophomore Sarah Fouratt (Santa Maria, Calif.). She shot a 2-over-par, 74, in round one, fueled by an eagle on the par-5, hole No. 18. In round two, she used three birdies to shoot even-par. Right now, she is tied for eighth place with a 2-over-par, 74-72-146.

Only one stroke behind Fouratt is teammate Carolina Ronchel Salas (Huelva, Spain.). The senior also had an eagle in the first round. Hers was on the par-4, No. 13 hole and it helped power a 4-over-par, 76. In the afternoon, Ronchel Salas shaved five strokes off her score to shoot a 1-under-par, 71. Currently, she is tied for 12th place with a 76-71-147.

Senior Lizzie Win (Sylvania, Ohio) shot a 7-over-par, 79, in round one, but bounced back in a big way in the afternoon. She shaved seven shots off her score to finish even in round two. Through two rounds, Win is 7-over-par with a 79-72-151.

Rounding out The Hall's scoring is junior Mia Kness (Venetia, Pa.). Kness also improved as the day progressed on Saturday, firing a 7-over-par, 79, in the morning, and following up with a 4-over-par, 76, in the afternoon. Currently, she is 11-over-par with a 79-76-155.

The field will play two rounds (36 holes) on Saturday, beginning with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m., and a single, final round on Sunday. Sunday's round will also be a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m.
