Romaro Gill Named Met Writers Co-Player of the Week

NEW YORK - Senior center Romaro Gill (St. Thomas, Jamaica) of the Seton Hall men's basketball team has been named the Met Writers Co-Player of the Week, the organization announced Tuesday morning. Gill shares the honor with Army West Point's Tommy Funk.
This is the fourth consecutive Met Writers weekly honor for the Pirates. Senior Quincy McKnight (Bridgeport, Conn.) started the run on Dec. 24 with his first-ever Met Writers Player of the Week award, followed by two consecutive wins for senior All-America candidate Myles Powell (Trenton, N.J.) on Jan. 14 and Jan. 21. There were no awards issued on Dec. 31 and Jan. 7.
Gill was dominant in Seton Hall's 73-64 win over Providence, recording a career-high matching 17 points, six rebounds and a career-high eight blocks. The eight blocks were the most by a Pirate ever at Prudential Center and tied for fifth-most in Seton Hall single-game history. He helped The Hall hold Providence to 35.9 percent shooting.
A leading candidate for BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Year and Most Improved Player, Gill is averaging 8.1 points, 5.6 rebounds and 3.4 blocks per game overall and has elevated his game in the seven BIG EAST contests with averages of 13.1 points, 6.4 rebounds and 4.3 blocks. He has reached double figures in scoring in six straight games and has blocked three or more shots in six of the last seven games.
Gill and the No. 10 Pirates are 15-4 overall and 7-0 in the BIG EAST. They host DePaul at Prudential Center Wednesday at 6:30 p.m., and host Xavier Saturday at 11 a.m.
