Mamukelashvili Headlines Preseason All-BIG EAST Honors

NEW YORK - Senior forward Sandro Mamukelashvili (Tbilisi, Georgia) has been named a unanimous selection to the Preseason All-BIG EAST first team, the conference announced Wednesday during its Virtual Media Day. Mamukelashvili was joined in preseason recognition by senior graduate transfer Bryce Aiken (Randolph, N.J.), who was named Preseason All-BIG EAST honorable mention. The vote was conducted by the BIG EAST's 10 head coaches, who were prohibited from voting for their own student-athletes.
This is the sixth straight year that Seton Hall has had at least one student-athlete voted Preseason All-BIG EAST.
Mamukelashvili returns for his senior season after an abbreviated junior campaign that saw him miss 10 games due to injury. However, in his final eight games of the 2019-20 season, he showed that he was worthy of All-BIG EAST recognition. He averaged 15.1 points and 7.8 rebounds while shooting 57 percent from the field and 50 percent from three, including 26 points and nine rebounds at Marquette and 20 points and 10 rebounds against Villanova. Although he only played in 20 of Seton Hall's 30 games last season, his impact still earned him All-Met Writers third team honors.
Aiken comes to Seton Hall after graduating from Harvard, where he averaged 16.8 points, 2.4 rebounds and 2.7 assists over 65 career games. He was a two-time first-team All-Ivy League selection, the 2017 Ivy League Rookie of the Year, a 2019 USBWA All-District first team and NABC All-Region second team selection and a 2019 Lou Henson All-American.
Mamukelashvili and Aiken are two of four seniors on this experienced Pirates team that returns 44Â percent of their scoring, 63 percent of their rebounding and 50 percent of their three-pointers made from last season's BIG EAST regular season championship squad.
