SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Seton Hall women's volleyball Head Coach Allison Yaeger announced today that Anna Holland (Waukesha, Wis.) and Katie Winkler (East Troy, Wis.) have signed National Letters of Intent and will play volleyball for the University beginning in the fall of 2021.
Â
A two-time All-State selection, Holland is a talented libero / defensive specialist who was leading the Classic 8 Conference in aces and was third in digs before the season was prematurely shortened in 2020. A team captain for Waukesha West High School, she helped lead the Wolverines to a third-place finish at the Wisconsin Interscholastic Athletic Association State Tournament in 2018, the school's first-ever States appearance.Â
Â
Off the court, Holland was a member of the National Honor Society and maintained a 4.0 grade point average, ranking in the top-10 of 312 students for all four years.
Â
"I'm so excited to bring Anna into our program," Yaeger said. "As a libero, her ball control is unmatched. From the first time I saw Anna at a young age, I knew that she was special and has the capability of carrying on the tradition of great liberos at Seton Hall. Being a former libero myself, I have a very close bond with Anna and know that she has what it takes to be a smart libero and a great Pirate."
Â
A three-year opposite hitter for East Troy High School, Winkler earned All-Conference three times, including First Team honors twice. A two-time Division 2 All-State selection, she helped lead her team to four straight Regional Championships and a State title in 2018. In three years, she has recorded over 1,000 kills, 500 digs, 100 blocks and 100 service aces.Â
Â
"Katie will be a huge offensive threat and will add depth to our pins," Yaeger said. "Her blocking presence cannot be understated, nor can the fact that she has the capability of playing all six rotations, which is very rare for a right side hitter." Â
Â
A National Honor Society member, Winkler was teammates with Holland on the Milwaukee Sting Volleyball Club.
Â
"It's always exciting for me to bring in players from my hometown and my former club of Milwaukee Sting," Yaeger said. "I know how hard it is to play for Sting and the work it requires for them to stay on top. Sting has some of the best coaches in the country and they have been molding both Anna and Katie to be great college athletes. By being at Sting together, Anna and Katie have not only been teammates and developed a chemistry on the court, they've also become great friends and can lean on each other off the court."
