Pirates Non-Conference Slate Released

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – Seton Hall women's basketball head coach Anthony Bozzella announced on Wednesday the program's 2020 non-conference schedule. The Pirates will play five contests, all in Walsh Gymnasium.

The Hall will open the 2020-21 campaign with a contest against local rival Rider on Wednesday, Nov. 25 at 1:00 p.m. The Broncs were picked to finish seventh in the 11-team Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) this year and feature Preseason All-MAAC Second Team pick Amanda Mobley. The Pirates have never lost to Rider in 11 all-time meetings, including an 85-49 victory in their last game exactly three years prior to the 2020-21 opener.

Three days later, The Hall will take on Saint Peter's at Walsh Gym on Saturday, November 28 at 1:00 p.m. The Peacocks are picked to finish ninth in the MAAC and feature senior guard Taiah Thornton, a Preseason Second Team pick. Seton Hall has won 16 of 19 all-time games against Saint Peter's, including a 90-47 victory in 2018.

For a second straight year, the Pirates will host Fairfield at Walsh Gym. The Hall will take on the Stags on Monday, Nov. 30 at 5:00 p.m. Last year, the Pirates downed Fairfield, 74-44, behind game-highs of 18 points and 14 rebounds from Desiree Elmore (Hartford, Conn.). Fairfield is picked to finish second in the MAAC this year and features the MAAC Preseason Player of the Year, Lou Lopez-Senechal. Lopez-Senechal scored just five points in last year's contest.

After Seton Hall opens BIG EAST play, it'll face Wagner on Friday, Dec. 11 at 7:00 p.m. The Seahawks are picked to finish sixth in the 10-team Northeast Conference (NEC), and return the NEC's second-leading scorer from a year ago, junior Emilija Krista Grava. Seton Hall is 8-2 all-time against Wagner and has won four straight in the series.

Finally, The Hall will host Atlantic-10 foe Fordham on Sunday, Dec. 13 at 5:00 p.m. The Rams finished in a three-way tie for fourth place in the conference's preseason poll. Fordham's Kendall Heremaia was named to the Preseason Second Team, while teammate Anna DeWolfe earned Third Team recognition. The Pirates have won seven of 11 all-time meetings, including a 66-54 win most recently in 2015.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic, no fans will be in attendance for Seton Hall's seven home games at Walsh Gymnasium in November and December. The department continues to monitor the landscape and will make decisions in alignment with state and local guidelines while prioritizing the health and safety of the entire Seton Hall community.

Seton Hall is coming off a 19-12 season and a berth in the BIG EAST Championship semifinals. The COVID-19 pandemic prevented the Pirates from claiming an inevitable sixth post-season appearance in seven years under Head Coach Anthony Bozzella. This year, the Pirates return a young, talented team, including Elmore, a unanimous Preseason All-BIG EAST selection, and BIG EAST All-Freshman pick Mya Jackson (Wilmington, Ohio).
