Â
The Reynolds Jr. three-pointer came after Marquette had erased an 11-point Pirates lead with a 15-4 run to tie the game at 61-61. Seton Hall led for nearly the entirety of the night.
Â
Mamukelashvili led all scorers with 17 points to go with his seven assists plus six rebounds and three steals.
Â
Seton Hall, which has now won four in a row, is 2-0 to start BIG EAST play for the fourth straight season and sixth time in the last seven seasons.
Â
Turning Point
Seton Hall led for over 37 minutes of the game, had a six-point halftime lead and built an 11-point lead, 57-46, with 9:06 remaining after senior Myles Cale (Middletown, Del.) drilled his third triple of the evening.
Â
The Pirates went a little cold on offense to give Marquette the chance too inch back. D.J. Carton pulled up on a three-pointer to cap a 12-2 run and make it a one-point game, 59-58, with 3:29 to go. Junior Takal Molson (Buffalo, N.Y.) had a huge clean-up outback with 3:10 to go to make it a three-point lead, but then after each team came up empty on a possession, Carton stepped up again and swished a game-tying three with 1:52 on the clock.
Â
Seton Hall came up empty on its next possession followed by a Marquette offensive foul and turnover as Molson drew a charge. That set up the game-winner as Mamukelashvili backed into the paint to draw defenders, and he kicked it out to Reynolds, Jr., on the left wing, and as he does, the senior connected for the three to put the Pirates up 64-61 with 42.1 seconds to go.
Â
Marquette committed another turnover on its ensuing possession, setting up the Pirates to win the game on free throws. Mamukelashvili and Reynolds, Jr., combined to make six of six attempts to ice the game.Â
