Myles Powell Earns Sixth Career BIG EAST Player of the Week Award

NEW YORK - Seton Hall men's basketball senior All-America candidate Myles Powell (Trenton, N.J.) has been named BIG EAST Player of the Week after leading the Pirates to a pair of big road wins while averaging 26.5 points in the process, the league office announced Monday. Powell has now won the award six times in his career, setting a new program record.
Powell passed Terry Dehere (1989-93), who won the award five times in his illustrious career, including four times during the 1992-93 season. Powell now has also won the award four times this season alone.Â
A leading contender for the Wooden Award, Naismith Trophy, Oscar Robertson Trophy, Jerry West Award and the Senior CLASS Award, Powell dominated in Seton Hall's two road wins last week with averages of 26.5 points, 5.0 rebounds and 2.0 assists. He poured in 21 first-half-points at Georgetown, helping the Pirates get out to a 16-0 start that ultimately led to a 78-71 victory. He finished the game with 34 points on 12-of-24 shooting, his third 30-point effort of the season and 12th of his career.
Then Powell helped Seton Hall earn its first road win at Villanova since 1994 with 19 points on 7-of-16 shooting, including an epic step-back jumper with under four to play to keep Villanova at arm's length and quiet the Wells Fargo Center crowd of over 20,000.
Powell is averaging 21.9 points per game this season, good for 10th in the nation and second in the BIG EAST. He and the 10th-ranked Pirates are 18-5 overall and 10-1 in the BIG EAST, including a 6-0 mark in conference road games.
