OMAHA, NEB. – Freshman Mya Jackson (Wilmington, Ohio) had team-highs of 19 points and eight rebounds, but the Seton Hall women's basketball team fell at Creighton, 78-66, on Sunday.
Â
Jackson was brilliant, scoring her 19 points on an efficient 7-for-9 shooting, which included four made three-pointers. Her eight rebounds are a career best.
Â
The game was close throughout, but Creighton drained seven three-pointers on 10 shots in the fourth quarter to pull away.
Â
The Story:
Freshman Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) connected on a pair of free-throws to give The Hall a 24-21 edge with 4:50 left in the first half. Creighton responded however, with a 9-0 run, and back-to-back three-pointers by Jaylyn Agnew gave the Bluejays a 30-24 with only 1:44 left before the break. Not to be outdone, a three-point play by Femi Funeus (Plantation, Fla.) and a three-pointer by Park-Lane tied the score at 30.
Â
Creighton took a 34-32 lead into halftime of a very close game. Neither team had a lead of greater than three points until the Bluejays went on their run late in the second quarter. The Pirates trailed by only two at the half despite being out-shot, 50.0%-to-33.3%. The Hall made up for their shooting with hustle. The Pirates out-rebounded the Bluejays by seven and held an 8-to-1 advantage on the offensive glass.
Â
The Bluejays began the second half with an 8-2 run to grab a 42-34 advantage with 7:20 left in the third quarter. The Pirate deficit got as high as nine points twice in the third quarter, before a three-pointer by Jasmine Smith (Houston, Texas) closed the quarter with a three-pointer, sending The Hall into the fourth down six.
Â
Seton Hall didn't have an answer for Creighton's long-distance shooting in the fourth. The Bluejays made eight field goals in the final period, and seven were from beyond the three-point arc.
Â
