Pirates Start Strong at BIG EAST Championships

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The Seton Hall men's swimming and diving team kicked off the 2020 BIG EAST Championships with a pair of second place finishes in the 800 Free Relay and 200 Medley Relay.
First in the 800 Free Relay, the team of Joe Gibson (Chicago, Ill.), Thomas Minar (Oxford, Conn.), Caleb Smith (Charlottesville, Va.) and Ben LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.) combined to touch the wall in a time of 6:36.84. The Pirates finished runner up to Villanova who finished with a time of 6:36.55.
Later, in the second relay event of the evening, the 200 Medley Relay, Ross Pantano (Bennington, Neb.), Josh Tosoni (Arnold, Md.), Liam Cosgrove (Sea Girt, N.J.) and Sam Hendrix (Hillsborough, N.J.) duplicated the success of the first relay team, taking second in their respective event. The Pirates finished the relay in a time of 1:29.08, which sets a new program record. The old record was set in 2009 at a time of 1:29.12.
In total, the Pirates finished the day in third place with 68 points, just two points behind the first place tie of Villanova and Georgetown.
The team will be back at it for day two of the BIG EAST Championships with Prelims beginning at 10 a.m.
