Minar, Pirates Have Strong Showing at Day Two of BIG EAST Championships

EAST MEADOW, N.Y. – The Seton Hall men's swimming and diving team continued their hot start to the 2020 BIG EAST championships on Thursday.

First, in the 500 Free Final, the Pirates picked up some big points when they took three of the top five spots in the race. Ben LaClair (Belchertown, Mass.), Caleb Smith (Charlottesville, Va.) and Joe Gibson (Chicago, Ill.) finished third, fourth and fifth, respectively, to get the Pirates started.

In his first BIG EAST Championships, Thomas Minar (Oxford, Conn.) paced the pool when he captured first in the 50 Free with a time of 20.61. Minar wasn't finished there, however.

Minar was the opener for the 200 Free Relay as the Pirates tied Xavier for first place in the event. With a time of 1:21.05, just one second off the program record, Minar, LeClair, Gibson and Sam Hendrix (Hillsborough, N.J.) helped lead the Pirates on day two.

In diving, senior Tim Lynch (Watertown, Conn.) took fifth in the 3 mtr dive with a score of 476.15.

On the scoreboard, the Pirates finished the day in third place with 237 points, just nine points behind the first place tie of Villanova and Xavier.

The team will be back at it for day three of the BIG EAST Championships with Prelims beginning at 10 a.m.
