Myles Powell Named Naismith Trophy Semifinalist

ATLANTA - Senior All-America candidate Myles Powell (Trenton, N.J.) has been named one of 10 semifinalists for the 2020 Citizen Naismith Trophy, the Atlanta Tipoff Club announced Thursday. Powell is one of two BIG EAST contenders for the award, given to the nation's top college basketball player.Â
The four finalists will be announced on March 17, 2020, and beginning March 20 through April 1, 2020, fans will have a chance to vote for their favorite player by visiting naismithtrophy.com/vote to cast their ballot. The fan vote will account for five percent of the overall vote. The 2020 Citizen Naismith Trophy will be awarded at the Naismith Awards Brunch presented by Invesco QQQ on April 5, 2020, during the Men's Division I Championship weekend in Atlanta.
An Associated Press Preseason All-America selection and the BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year, Powell has lived up to the hype with both his scoring prowess and his incredible leadership. Powell is averaging 21.3 points per game, which ranks 15th in the country and second in the BIG EAST. That number rises to 22.7 points per game when excluding the two games he had to leave early due to injury. He has especially been deadly on the road in BIG EAST play, averaging 27.1 points per game while leading The Hall to a 7-1 mark.
Overall, Powell has been at the forefront of one of the most prolific seasons in Seton Hall history. The Pirates are 21-8 overall and 13-4 in the BIG EAST, clinching at least a share of the program's first conference regular season championship since 1993. Currently, Seton Hall is ranked No. 8 in the latest Associated Press top 25 poll. The team has 10 NET "Quad 1" wins, a figure that is tied for second-most in the nation, and a combined 15-8 record against "Quad 1+2" teams.
