South Orange, N.J. - Seton Hall men's basketball graduate Sandro Mamukelashvili (Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia) will be on the opening day roster of the NBA's Milwaukee Bucks with the season commencing Tuesday night when the Bucks host the Brooklyn Nets at Fiserv Forum in Milwaukee.Â
Mamukelashvili is on the cusp of becoming the 28th Pirates alumnus to play a game in the NBA. The 2021 BIG EAST Player of the Year and Haggerty Award winner was the 54th overall selection in the 2021 NBA Draft and immediately signed a Two-Way Contract with the Bucks. He enjoyed a strong preseason camp with the Bucks, averaging 8.4 points, 6.6 rebounds and 1.2 assists over five games. Playing in front of family, friends and former Seton Hall teammates at Barclays Center, Mamukelashvili was dominant against the Nets in the preseason, posting 20 points and 11 rebounds.
Mamukelashvili enjoyed a prosperous four-year career with the Pirates, helping the team reach the NCAA Tournament in 2018 and 2019 and win the BIG EAST regular season championship in 2020 before COVID-19 canceled Seton Hall's NCAA Tournament run. He became the 45th player in program history to score 1,000 career points, and he finished his career 38th all-time in points with 1,100 points and 20th all-time in rebounds with 651.
Seton Hall men's basketball student-athletes have combined to play 6,639 career games in the NBA. Most recent Pirates in the NBA include BIG EAST all-time leading rebounder Angel Delgado and 2016 BIG EAST Tournament Most Outstanding Player Isaiah Whitehead.
