Fairfax, Va. – On the first night of the Patriot Invitational, the Seton Hall women's 200 Free Relay team consisting of Leiya Istambouli (Danbury, Conn.), Lea Moeller, Natalie Heim (Middletown, N.J.) and Cornelia Jerresand (Taeby, Sweden) combined to break the program record in the event, doing so in a time of 1:33.81. The previous record, set in 2017, sat at 1:34.13.
With the record-setting swim, Jerresand now holds three program records after setting new program top-times in the 50 Free and 400 Free Relay at last year's BIG EAST Championships. Istambouli and Heim also helped break the 400 Free Relay record at last year's conference championships final giving them each two program records as well.
The Pirates followed up the hot start to Thursday night's events with a strong showing in the 500 Free final. The duo of Allie Waggoner and Amanda Zajdzinski placed two-three in the event. Waggoner touched the wall in a time of 4:56.72 while Zajdzinksi finished just behind her fellow Pirate at 4:56.72. In the 200 IM, Claire O'Neill (Mount Joy, Pa.) secured points for the Pirates with a top-eight finish and a time of 2:07.44.
After setting the new program record in the 200 Free Relay earlier in the night, Jerresand and Heim returned with a fourth and seventh place finishes in the 50 Free. Jerresand finished in a time of 23.45 while Heim closed out with a time of 23.85.
The 400 Medley Relay team of Madeline Field (Wheaton, Ill.), Moeller, Sierra Cripps (Seymour, Conn.) and Heim closed out night one for the Pirates with a time of 3:49.52 in the final event.
