Mamukelashvili Reaches 1,000 Points in Victory Over DePaul
2/17/2021 10:48:00 PM | Men's Basketball
The Pirate defense came up huge again, holding its second opponent in four days to 52 or fewer points. The Hall held DePaul to just 21 points in the second half and forced 20 turnovers for the game.
Mamukelashvili was brilliant for the Pirates, recording his second straight double-double with 25 points on 10-for-19 shooting, to go with 11 rebounds, four assists, two blocks and two steals. He's the 45th player in program history to reach 1,000 career points.
Junior Jared Rhoden (Baldwin, N.Y.) and senior Myles Cale (Middletown, Del.) also reached double-figures in scoring with 17 and 11 points, respectively.
Seton Hall, standing at 10-5 in the BIG EAST, has now reached at least 10 BIG EAST wins for the fifth time in the last six seasons.

What Happened:
Mamukelashvili connected on a three-pointer for the first points of the game, but then Seton Hall went cold offensively, missing 14 of their next 15 shots, which included a scoring drought of 6:02. Meanwhile, DePaul went on a 13-2 run to take an early 13-5 advantage.
Trailing 21-14, The Hall went on an 8-0 run, and a three-pointer by Rhoden with 4:13 left to play before halftime put the Pirates back on top, 22-21. The Blue Demons, however, outscored the Pirates, 10-5, the rest of the half, and a buzzer-beater from just shy of halfcourt by Ray Salnave sent them into the locker room up, 31-27.
Neither team took a lead of greater than four points after halftime until the Pirates got a little breathing room midway through the second half. Down 46-42, Seton Hall went on a 9-0 run, punctuated by a break-away dunk by Cale, to give it a 51-46 lead with 8:07 left to play.
DePaul was able to pull to within one point, 53-52, with just under four minutes left, but didn't score again. Mamukelashvili hit a jumper to extend The Hall's lead to three, and then the Pirates iced the game at the free-throw line.
