Â
LAST GAME
The Pirates relied on a strong defensive effort amid a poor shooting night to outlast Georgetown, 60-52, on Monday for its sixth consecutive victory.
Â
Playing in their first game after a 17-day layoff, the Pirates struggled mightily shooting the ball early, but found their touch in the fourth quarter. After shooting just 19.7% from the floor through three quarters, The Hall was 10-for-15 (67.7%) in the defining fourth quarter.
Â
The Pirates improve to 7-2 in BIG EAST play and have won six straight games for the first time since the 2015-16 season.
Â
Andra Espinoza-Hunter (Ossining, N.Y.) had a tough shooting night, but came through down the stretch. She led The Hall with 18 points, nine of which were scored in the fourth quarter.Â
Â
Senior Desiree Elmore (Hartford, Conn.), Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) and Jasmine Smith (Houston, Texas) all also scored in double-figures. Elmore finished with 15 points, five rebounds and four steals. Park-Lane netted 12 points, while Smith came off the bench for a big 11 points, four rebounds and two steals.

Earlier This Year: UConn 92, Seton Hall 65 (F) – December 15, 2020 (Walsh Gym)
Â
EARLIER THIS YEAR AGAINST CONNECTICUT
Sophomore Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) erupted for a career-high 29 points, but the Pirates fell to No. 3 Connecticut, 92-65, in its BIG EAST Conference opener at Walsh Gym on December 15.
Â
The Pirates, playing in their fourth game in eight days, trailed by only eight points at the half, but a lengthy third-quarter Connecticut run put the contest out of reach.
Â
Park-Lane was spectacular, tallying a game-high 29 points on 9-for-20 shooting and 9-for-10 from free-throw line. The point guard also dished out a team-high six assists against only two turnovers.
Â
Seton Hall played tough defense through the early goings of the first quarter, but UConn's defense and fast-break quickly caught up. Leading just 8-6 at the media break, the Huskies offense struck hard. In only 1:48, Connecticut went on a 13-2 run to grab a 21-8 advantage with 2:29 left in the first quarter.
Â
SCOUTING CONNECTICUT
Connecticut is coming off a spectacular 26-3 season, which included a perfect record in conference play and a seventh consecutive American Athletic Conference championship. The Huskies were projected to earn a No. 2 seed in the NCAA Tournament before the season was prematurely ended. Megan Walker and Crystal Dangerfield were selected in the WNBA Draft following the season.
Â
This season, Connecticut returns to the BIG EAST Conference and was chosen as the unanimous favorite to win the league title. Despite the WNBA defections, UConn returns BIG EAST Preseason Player of the Year Christyn Williams and Preseason Freshman of the Year Paige Bueckers.
Â
The Huskies are currently ranked No. 2 in the country according to the Associated Press. They're no longer undefeated having lost to No. 19 Arkansas on Jan. 29, but they haven't lost since. UConn enters this contest with a 14-1 overall record and an unblemished 11-0 mark in BIG EAST play. They're coming off a thrilling 63-59 overtime victory over No. 1 South Carolina on Monday. Bueckers scored a game-high 31 points, including a dagger three-pointer with 10 seconds left. She scored all nine of the Huskies overtime points.
Â
UP NEXT
Seton Hall will return to action on Saturday, February 13 when it returns to Walsh Gymnasium for a contest against BIG EAST rival Creighton. Tip-time is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET. The contest will be streamed live by the BIG EAST Digital Network on FloHoops.com. As usual, 89.FM WSOU will also bring you all the action on the radio.
