
Pirates Drop Friday Contest at Connecticut

STORRS, CONN. – Freshman Taylor Jakubowski (Lake in the Hills, Ill.) finished one assist shy of a double-double, but the Seton Hall women's volleyball team fell at Connecticut, 3-0 (15-25, 22-25, 23-25), on Friday.

Jakubowski finished with nine assists and 11 digs. Sophomore Perri Lucas (Chicago, Ill.) was the top offensive threat for The Hall. She finished with nine kills to go with seven digs and two blocks.

BIG EAST Libero of the Year candidate Raygan Murray (Rocky River, Ohio) led all players with 12 digs.

SET 1:
Connecticut assumed control early, jumping out to a 12-3 lead in set one. Down 16-8, The Hall scored four of the next five points, and a kill by Amanda Rachwal (Bethlehem, Pa.) cut its deficit to 17-12. With the deficit still five points at 19-14, UConn scored five straight points to enter set point. A kill by Tsvetelina Ilieva (Sofia, Bulgaria) staved off one set point, but ultimately the Pirates fell, 25-15. Seton Hall had a -.056 attack percentage in the opening set.

After eight ties and with the score knotted at 15, Connecticut took control. The Huskies scored five of the next six points to grab a 20-16 advantage. The Pirates rallied and a kill by Lucas cut their deficit to 21-19, but UConn scored the next two points to jump back ahead, 23-19. The Hall rallied again with three straight points and a block by Lucas and Madison Frusha (Huntsville, Texas) cut its deficit to 23-22.

Connecticut opened the third set with five of the first six points, but the Pirates responded with a 10-1 run to take an 11-6 lead and force an early Husky timeout. Trailing 16-11, UConn scored five straight to tie the set at 16. A kill by sophomore Reagan Hopp (Carmel, Ind.) put the Pirates in front, 22-21, but the Huskies bounced back with the next two points to take the lead and force a Pirate timeout. Out of the break, UConn scored two of the final three points to win, 25-23.
