NEW YORK – Seton Hall's Kelsey Carr (Ridgewood, N.Y.) was named the BIG EAST Softball Freshman of the Week on Monday. Darby Pandolfo (Massapequa, N.Y.) was also awarded a spot on the weekly Honor Roll.
Carr was a force for the Pirates both in the circle and in the lineup. In her first career game at Mike Sheppard, Sr. Field, Carr went deep with a three run shot in the third inning against Fordham on Saturday to help pick up her first career win in the circle.
On Sunday, Carr would duplicate her success with another three-run long ball in the second game against Lehigh. Again, Carr would also earn the victory in the circle with a dominating performance. Carr fired a complete game shutout with six strikeouts across five innings of two-hit ball.
For the weekend, Carr hit .400 with two home runs and seven runs driven in. In the circle, Carr racked up 13 K's in 11.1 innings of work and two victories.
After a solid opening weekend from the veteran, Darby Pandolfo continued to produce at the plate. The graduate student hit at a .667 clip while driving in five for the Pirate offense. Pandolfo went deep in The Hall's 10-0 win over Lehigh on Sunday, her second home run of the season. With four walks to her credit, Pandolfo swelled her on-base percentage to .727 for the weekend and had a slugging percentage of 1.127.
As a team, the Pirates completed a perfect 3-0 home-opening weekend. Seton Hall will return to action on Wednesday when they host Stony Brook for a midweek con-conference matchup. First pitch is set for 2:30 p.m.
