NEW YORK – Seton Hall men's basketball graduate Sandro Mamukelashvili (Tbilisi, Republic of Georgia) has received an invite and will attend the Microsoft Surface NBA Draft Combine, which will be held June 21-27 at Wintrust Arena and the Marriott Marquis in Chicago, the National Basketball Association announced Tuesday evening. Mamueklashvili, who is the 2021 BIG EAST Player of the Year, was one of 69 athletes on the initial list to attend.
The Microsoft Surface NBA Draft Combine 2021 is an important step in the draft process for NBA prospects, leading up to NBA Draft 2021 presented by State Farm on July 29. Players will conduct interviews with NBA teams and participate in five-on-five games, shooting and strength and agility drills June 22-25. ESPN2 (June 24) and ESPNU (June 25) will provide coverage of the five-on-five games from 3-7 p.m., Eastern each day.
Mamukelashvili is vying to become Seton Hall's 29th all-time NBA Draft selection and first since Isaiah Whitehead in 2016.
In 2020-21, the versatile power forward was one of only two players in the BIG EAST Conference to rank in the league's top-5 in both scoring and rebounding and one of only two to rank in the top-15 in scoring, rebounding and assists, both overall and in conference games only. He finished the season second in the conference in scoring at 17.5 points per game, fifth in rebounding at 7.6 per game and 13th in assists at 3.2 per game.
At season's end, in addition to his conference player of the year honor, Mamukelashvili also was named the Haggerty Award Metropolitan Player of the Year, Associated Press All-America honorable mention, NABC and USBWA All-District, first-team All-BIG EAST and first-team All-Met Writers. He also was a finalist for the 2021 Karl Malone National Power Forward of the Year Award.
In February, Mamukelashvili became just the 45th Pirate in program history to reach the 1,000 career points milestone. Reaching 1,000 was a strong accomplishment for someone who only scored 87 points his freshman season, missed 10 games of his junior season due to injury and lost more games due to the COVID-19 pandemic. He finished his career with an even 1,100 points, which ranks 38th all-time at Seton Hall. He also ranks 20th in program history with 651 career rebounds.
