
Bechadergue, Pirates Excel on First Day at Nittany Lion Invite

STATE COLLEGE, PA. – Graduate transfer Margot Bechadergue (Aix-En-Provence, France) is currently 5-under-par and has lifted the Seton Hall women's golf team to a third-place tie through two rounds of the Nittany Lion Invitational.

Bechadergue has been brilliant in her first tournament as a Pirate. The Louisville transfer opened the event with a 1-under-par, 71, in the morning, and used six birdies to fuel a remarkable 4-under-par, 68, in the afternoon. Through 36 holes, Bechadergue is in third place among 85 golfers with a 5-under-par, 71-68-139. She trails the individual leader, Penn State's Mathilde Delavallade by two strokes entering Sunday's final round.

Bechadergue's second-round 68 is tied for the second-lowest single round in Seton Hall history for a par-72 course.

Collectively, the Pirates shot an 8-over-par, 296, in the opening round, and then shaved 12 strokes off in the afternoon. The Hall's 284 was the second-best second round of the day and is the second-lowest single team round for a par-72 course in program history.

With 18 holes remaining, The Hall is 4-over-par with a 296-284-580 and is tied with James Madison for third place. The Pirates trail the host and team leaders, Penn State, by 13 strokes. Delaware is in second place at even par.

Freshman Ana Sarrias Pro (Cadiz, Spain), competing in her first collegiate tournament, also had an impressive first day. She registered a 2-over-par, 74, in the first round, powered by an eagle on the par-5, No. 2 hole. In the second round, Sarrias Pro used four birdies to fuel an even-par, 72. Through two rounds, she's tied for 18th place with a 2-over-par, 74-72-146.

The tournament's defending individual champion, Sarah Fouratt (Santa Maria, Calif.), had a rough first round, but was spectacular in the afternoon. After a first-round 79, she bounced back with three birdies and an eagle on the par-4, No. 11 hole in route to a 3-under-par, 69, in round two. Fouratt is currently tied for 30th place with a 4-over-par, 79-69-148.

Junior Ludovica Busetto (Padova, Italy) had four birdies in the opening round on her way to a 2-over-par, 74. In the afternoon, she was only one stroke worse, firing a 3-over-par, 75. Through 36 holes, Busetto is tied for 35th place with a 5-over-par, 74-75-149.

Sophomore Ginevra Ricciardelli (Rome, Italy) had four birdies in the first round to power a 5-over-par, 77. In round two, she carded an 8-over-par, 80. For the tournament, she is 13-over-par with a 77-80-157.

Rounding out the Pirate lineup was sophomore Sasha Amelang (Houston, Texas), who is competing as an individual. She is currently 26-over-par through two rounds with an 83-87-170.

Teams will play five golfers and count the four lowest scores per round.

The field will play two continuous rounds (36 holes) on Saturday, beginning with a shotgun start at 9:00 a.m., and a single, final round on Sunday. Sunday's shotgun start will begin at 8:30 a.m. Seton Hall will be paired with golfers from Boston College and James Madison for the first two rounds.
