SCOUTING BUTLER
Seton Hall and Butler will meet for the 17th time in history on Friday. The Bulldogs own a 10-6 lead in the all-time series, and have dominated in recent years. Butler has won seven of the last eight meetings, but was swept by the Pirates last year in Indianapolis.Â
Â
Butler is coming off a 16-16 season overall last year and a 10-8 mark in BIG EAST play. The Bulldogs finished fifth in the BIG EAST, four games ahead of the Pirates. Their season came to an end with a first-round loss to Valparaiso in the NIVC Tournament.
Â
This year, Butler was picked to finish in seventh place in the 11-team BIG EAST Conference according to the preseason coaches' poll. Reigning BIG EAST Libero of the Year, Jaymeson Kinley, was named to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team. Also returning is All-BIG EAST Freshman Team member Mariah Grunze.Â
Â
Butler enters its Friday contest with Seton Hall with a 9-9 overall record and a 3-3 mark in BIG EAST play. The Bulldogs opened conference play with a four-set victory at DePaul on Sept. 23, and are coming off a pair of four-set wins last weekend. Butler defeated Georgetown on Friday and Villanova on Saturday both at Hinkle Field House. Kinley currently leads the BIG EAST with 5.59 digs per set, while Grunze is sixth in the league with 3.30 kills per set.
