Lauren Park-Lane Named to Wooden Award Watch List

LOS ANGELES. – Senior Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) has been named to the prestigious John R. Wooden Award Watch List on Tuesday. Chosen by a preseason poll of national college basketball experts, the list is comprised of 50 student-athletes who are the early front-runners for the most prestigious honors in college basketball, the Wooden Award All American Team™ and Most Outstanding Player Award.

Named All-Met Division I Player of the Year, Park-Lane was a unanimous selection to the All-BIG EAST First Team last season. Park-Lane finished third in the BIG EAST in scoring with 18.3 points per game and set Seton Hall's single-season points record. As a playmaker, she led the nation in total assists and set Seton Hall records for assists in a season (260) and in a single-game (18). Her 152 assists in BIG EAST play set a new conference mark. Named to both the BIG EAST and WNIT All-Tournament Teams, Park-Lane averaged 21.3 points and 5.6 assists per contest in nine postseason games. Named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll seven times, she also led the nation with 1,420 minutes played and 38.4 minutes per game.

This season, Park-Lane is already establishing her place as one of the premier point guards in the country. Through three games, she's averaging 18.0 points and 5.0 assists per game. At Rutgers on Friday, Park-Lane became only the third player in Seton Hall history to record 500 career assists.

The players on the list are considered strong candidates for the 2023 John R. Wooden Award Women's Player of the Year presented by Wendy's. Â Players not chosen to the preseason list are still eligible for the Wooden Awardâ„¢ midseason list, late season list, and the National Ballot. Â The National Ballot consists of 15 top players who have proven to their universities that they meet or exceed the qualifications of the Wooden Award. Â Nearly 1,000 voters will rank in order 10 of those 15 players when voting opens prior to the NCAA Tournament and will allow voters to take into consideration performance during early round games. The Wooden Award All American Teamâ„¢ will be announced the week of the "Elite Eight" round of the NCAA Tournament. Â The winner of the 2023 John R. Wooden Award will be presented in Los Angeles in April.
