ORLANDO – Graduate student Jala Jordan (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored a season-high 18 points to lift the Seton Hall women's basketball team to its sixth straight win, a 63-56 victory over UCF on Sunday.
Â
The Hall built a sizable 15-point lead with 3:20 left in the third quarter, but its offense went cold early in the fourth and the Pirates had to withstand a late Knight run.
Â
Jordan had a game-high 18 points on an efficient 7-for-10 shooting, which included three made three-pointers. She also had six rebounds. Despite an off-shooting night, Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) finished with 15 points, six assists and two steals. Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) added 12 points, seven rebounds and three blocks.
Â
THE STORY:
Seton Hall remained close with UCF in the first quarter despite battling foul trouble. The Pirates committed seven fouls in the first quarter with both Cooks and Jordan collecting two. Park-Lane and Azana Baines (Blackwood, N.J.) had layups on back-to-back possessions to send The Hall into the second quarter up 21-18.
Â
The teams started the second quarter ice cold from the field with The Hall connecting on just one of their first eight shots and UCF going 0-for-6 in the first 4:25. A jumper by Cooks gave The Hall a 26-18 lead with 5:38 left before halftime. The hit some late shots, including a three-pointer by Hagans off a pretty feed from Amari Wright (Jacksonville, Fla.) and The Hall carried a 36-26 lead into halftime. The Pirates' defense held Central Florida to just eight points and 3-for-17 shooting in the second quarter.
Â
Jordan caught fire in the third quarter, scoring eight points on the strength of a pair of made three-pointers. A jumper by Jordan gave The Hall its largest lead of the game, 49-34, with 3:20 left in the quarter. In the fourth, however, UCF made its run. A 9-2 run cut the Knight's deficit to 51-45 with 6:49 left to play. Still, UCF was never able to get closer than the six-point deficit.
Â
THE NUMBERS:
Seton Hall will return to action on Saturday, December 18 when it closes out the non-conference portion of its schedule in The Bronx against local non-conference foe Fordham. Tip is scheduled for 2:00 p.m. ET. The contest will be streamed live by ESPN+ and can be heard at 89.5 FM WSOU or wsou.net.
