Park-Lane goes for 24 points and Sidney Cooks collected a double-double.
CINCINNATI – Senior Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) had a game-high 24 points and Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) notched a double-double as the Seton Hall women's basketball team downed Xavier, 74-55, in its first BIG EAST contest of the 2022-23 season.
Â
In all, five Pirates scored at least eight points in a balanced offensive affair. Park-Lane finished with 24 points on 8-for-19 shooting with six assists. Cooks tallied 15 points and a team-best 10 rebounds along with four assists and four steals.
Â
Kae Satterfield (New York, N.Y.), making her return to Cincinnati since transferring from Xavier in the offseason, had 13 points on 5-for-7 shooting to go with seven rebounds. Sha'Lynn Hagans (Manassas, Va.) had nine points and three steals, while Mya Bembry (West Orange, N.J.) had eight points and five rebounds.
Â
THE STORY:
The opening quarter was an offensive showcase with both teams shooting better than 52% from the floor. Seton Hall forced seven Xavier turnovers, but the Musketeers were 4-for-6 from three-point range to remain in striking distance. The Pirates kept up the pressure in the second quarter, but again Xavier's shooting from long distance often halted any significant Seton Hall runs. Although The Hall never trailed in the second quarter, its lead was twice trimmed to one point. Leading 34-32, Park-Lane connected on The Hall's first trifecta of the game with 1:50 left in the half. A bucket by Satterfield sent The Hall into the locker room with a 39-32 lead.
Â
The Hall had a three-possession lead at the break despite shooting 1-for-10 from downtown in the opening half, compared to 7-for-12 for the Musketeers.
Â
The Pirates opened the second half with a 10-3 run, holding Xavier to just one field goal over the first 5:47 of the third quarter. A pair of made free-throws by Park-Lane gave The Hall a commanding 49-35 lead with 5:26 left in the quarter. In the fourth, a steal and uncontested score by Hagans with 5:38 left in the game extended the Pirates' lead to 64-46. From there, Xavier never cut The Hall's lead to single digits.
Â
THE NUMBERS:
Seton Hall will return to action on Sunday, December 4 when it continues BIG EAST play against Marquette in Walsh Gymnasium. Tip is scheduled for 1:00 p.m. ET. The contest will be streamed live by the BIG EAST Digital Network and available for FloHoops subscribers.
