
Huge Fourth Quarter Propels Pirates Past Hoyas, 72-62

SOUTH ORANGE, N.J. – The Seton Hall women's basketball team used a 17-2 run in the fourth quarter to rally past Georgetown, 72-62, on Wednesday in Walsh Gym for its eighth victory in the last nine games.

The Pirates trailed 54-50 with 8:39 left in the game, but went on a furious run over the next 6:06 to grab a commanding 67-56 advantage with just 2:33 to go. Â Senior Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) had 12 of her game-high 23 points in the fourth quarter alone, including a pair of timely three-pointers.

Park-Lane also had a game-high eight assists, adding to her Seton Hall career record.Â

Graduate student Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) had 17 points on 8-for-13 shooting and pulled down six rebounds.

THE STORY:
Seton Hall opened the game with an 8-0 run which sparked an early timeout by Georgetown. The Pirates held the Hoyas without a field goal for the first 3:40 of the game, meanwhile The Hall came out scalding from the field, connecting on 10 of their first 12 shots, including four made three-pointers. A trifecta by Shailyn Pinkney (East Hartford, Conn.) gave the Pirates a commanding 24-12 lead with 3:20 left in the first.

A jumper by Cooks with 8:34 left in the second quarter gave The Hall a 31-21 advantage, but then The Hall went cold from the field. The Pirates didn't connect on another field goal for the remainder of the half, going 0-for-10. Still, The Hall's defense was good enough to give it a 35-32 lead at the break.

Trailing 46-41, Georgetown closed out the third quarter with a 10-2 run, which gave them their first lead of the game and put them up, 51-48, through three quarters.

Down 54-50, the Pirates scored seven unanswered, and a three-pointer by Park-Lane with 6:55 left to play gave the lead back to Seton Hall, 57-54. The Pirates kept up their defensive pressure, and extended their run to 17-2, highlighted by steals and scores by Park-Lane and Pinkney, to take a 67-56 advantage with just 2:50 to go. A 6-0 Georgetown run cut The Hall's lead to five, but Park-Lane connected on a deep three-pointer with 53 seconds left to crush the Hoyas' comeback hopes.

- Seton Hall was 28-for-59 (47.5%) from the floor for the game, while Georgetown was 24-for-66 (36.4%). The Hall was 7-for-24 (29.2%) from three-point range, while the Hoyas were 7-for-16 (43.8%).Â
- Park-Lane had a game-high 23 points on the strength of four made three-pointers. She also had eight assists and was 5-for-6 from the free-throw line.
- The Hall out-rebounded Georgetown, 41-to-34, but the Hoyas had a 13-to-11 edge on the offensive glass and a 19-to-8 advantage in second-chance points.
- Cooks had 17 points on 8-for-13 shooting and six rebounds.
- Seton Hall was 9-for-11 (81.8%) from the free-throw line, while Georgetown was 7-for-11 (63.6%).
- Pinkney had one of her finest collegiate games with nine points, seven rebounds two assists and two steals.
- Seton Hall forced 13 turnovers, while Georgetown forced 15. The Pirates had a 13-to-8 advantage in points-off-turnovers.
- Both Mya Bembry (West Orange, N.J.) and Kae Satterfield (New York, N.Y.) finished with six points and a team-best eight rebounds.
- Seton Hall improves to 10-4 overall and 3-1 in the BIG EAST, while Georgetown falls to 8-5 overall and 1-3 in conference play. The Pirates have now won eight of their last nine games.
- The Hall is now 44-29 all-time against Georgetown and has now won seven straight against the Hoyas.
- With 23 points today, Park-Lane became only the eighth player in Seton Hall history to reach 1,500 career points.
