Park-Lane snaps the BIG EAST single-season assist record with 13 today.

CINCINNATI – Three Pirates scored at least 18 points and Lauren Park-Lane (Wilmington, Del.) broke the BIG EAST single-season assist record as the Seton Hall women's basketball team defeated Xavier, 74-53, in the regular season finale on Tuesday.

Seton Hall never trailed and completes the regular season with a 12-8 BIG EAST record, despite starting 3-7. The Pirates power into the postseason winners of nine of their last 10 games.

Park-Lane finished with 13 assists, which sets a new BIG EAST single-season record at 152. The Pirates' point guard bested the prior record of 147 set by Providence's Shanya Evans during the 1990-91 season.

Senior Sidney Cooks (Kenosha, Wis.) collected a double-double with 20 points, 10 rebounds and four assists. Junior Mya Jackson (Wilmington, Ohio) had 20 points on the strength of four made three-pointers. Andra Espinoza-Hunter (Ossining, N.Y.) tallied 18 points to go with five rebounds, three assists and three steals.

The Story:
Leading 21-16 early in the second quarter, The Hall went on a 9-0 run, fueled by a pair of three-pointers from Jackson, to give it a 30-16 lead with 6:15 to go before halftime. Ahead 33-24, Espinoza-Hunter connected on three-pointers on back-to-back possessions to extend the Pirates' lead to 39-24 with just 2:22 to go before the break. The Hall took a 39-26 lead into the locker room.

The Pirates shot 53.3% from the floor in the first half and drained six three-pointers, including a three apiece from Espinoza-Hunter and Jackson.

Xavier cut the Seton Hall lead to eight points with 3:42 left in the third quarter, but the Pirates ended the quarter with a flurry. The Hall went on a 9-0 run, which included seven points by Park-Lane, to give it a 56-39 advantage with 49 seconds to go before the fourth.

Seton Hall scored the first six points of the fourth quarter, and its lead never got lower than 16 points the rest of the way.

Inside the Numbers:

Seton Hall was 29-for-65 (44.6%) from the floor for the game, while Xavier was 21-for-56 (37.5%). The Hall was 8-for-25 (32.0%) from three-point range, while the Musketeers were 2-for-12 (16.7%).
Cooks finished with 20 points on 9-for-16 shooting to go with 10 rebounds and four assists.
The Hall out-rebounded Xavier, 42-to-33, which included a 13-to-8 advantage on the offensive glass and a 17-to-6 lead in second-chance points.
Jackson tallied 20 points on the strength of 4-for-8 shooting from three-point range, five rebounds and three steals.
Seton Hall was 8-for-12 (66.7%) from the free-throw line, while Xavier was 9-for-12 (75.0%).
Espinoza-Hunter finished with 18 points to go with five rebounds, three assists and three steals.
Seton Hall forced 10 turnovers, while Xavier forced eight.
Park-Lane had just seven points, but a game-high 13 assists, three rebounds and two steals.

News & Notes:

Seton Hall concludes the 2022 regular season with a 17-11 overall record and 12-8 mark in BIG EAST play. Xavier finishes at 9-20 overall and 4-16 in conference action.
After going 3-7 in the first half of the BIG EAST schedule, the Pirates went 9-1 in the second half.
The Pirates improve to 16-3 all-time against Xavier and have now won six straight in the series.
With 13 assists today, Park-Lane set a new single-season BIG EAST record with 152 assists. The previous record was set by Providence's Shanya Evans during the 1990-91 season.
Cooks' double-double is her team-leading 10th of the season and her fifth in the last six games.
Seton Hall improves to 7-0 this season when out-rebounding its opponent.
With 13 assists today, Park-Lane tied former Pirates Jodi Brooks and Phyllis Mangina for third place all-time with 441 career assists.
With 20 points today, Cooks surpassed the 1,100-mark for her career.
Jackson has scored at least 20 points in all three games she's played at Xavier in her career. She's averaged 22.0 points on the strength of 16-for-24 shooting from three-point range.
